Official launch of VNPT – Qualcomm Center of Excellence (VQEC)

(Chinhphu.vn) - On October 14, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and Qualcomm Group officially launched the VNPT – Qualcomm Center of Excellence (VQEC).

In its development strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2035, VNPT focuses on three pillars: modern, safe and sustainable digital infrastructure, including 5G/6G networks, cloud computing, data centers and new-generation connection platforms; a Make in Vietnam digital product and service ecosystem, serving the digital government, digital economy and digital society; core technologies owned by Vietnamese people, from artificial intelligence, IoT, edge computing to semiconductor technology.

In particular, VQEC is positioned as a regional research and innovation center, connecting businesses, research institutes, universities and technology startups.

VQEC will focus on developing smart electronic devices, network devices and AI computing devices, contributing to the vision of Vietnam mastering core technology and reaching out to the global value chain.

At the launching ceremony of VQEC, Mr. Huynh Quang Liem, General Director of VNPT said that VQEC Center has a special meaning in opening up a new space to develop 5G/6G digital infrastructure, cloud, data center, from which, there will be products serving the make-in-Vietnam ecosystem. This is also the core of national innovation, connecting businesses - schools - research institutes - technology startups in the VQEC ecosystem.

"This event marks a strategic turning point in VNPT's transformation journey to become Vietnam's pioneering technology group. The center will be a place where Vietnamese intelligence and global knowledge converge, where VNPT and Qualcomm engineers together create smart electronic devices, network devices and AI computing, contributing to affirming the ability to master core technology and bring Make in Vietnam products to the international level," VNPT General Director Huynh Quang Liem emphasized.

Mr. Akash Palkhiwala, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer (CFO & COO), Qualcomm Corporation, said that this cooperation marks a new development in the partnership between Qualcomm and VNPT. The two sides will closely coordinate, with support from the Ministry of Science and Technology , to promote innovation, apply artificial intelligence to various devices and technologies in Vietnam, and gradually expand to the global market.

"We are very excited about the potential of this partnership and believe that we can work together on many meaningful projects. This partnership also demonstrates Qualcomm's long-term commitment to the Vietnamese market — we not only bring technology and innovation to Vietnam, but also want to build a comprehensive technology ecosystem with domestic enterprises," Mr. Akash Palkhiwala emphasized.

Accordingly, VNPT Technology - the core technology unit of VNPT Group in the field of industrial technology will take on the role of building and operating the VQEC Center, aiming to become Qualcomm's Authorized Design Center in Vietnam.

The establishment of VQEC is a testament to VNPT's aspiration to make Vietnam a strong country in technology and innovation, contributing to affirming the position of Make in Vietnam products on the global technology map.

Previously, in August 2025, VNPT and Qualcomm signed a strategic cooperation agreement towards the establishment of the VNPT – Qualcomm Center of Excellence. This is the first center in Vietnam capable of accessing and developing global core technology, playing an important role in enhancing Vietnam’s position in the international digital technology value chain.
