Increase adhesion: Cement helps bind sand and stone particles in mortar to form a highly adhesive mixture, increasing adhesion to the wall surface. This helps create a strong membrane, preventing water from seeping into the wall.
Increased durability: The waterproof cement layer will protect the house wall from the effects of harsh weather such as rain, sun, and wind. Thanks to that, the wall will have higher durability and avoid unwanted damage.
Water repellent: Cement has the ability to prevent water from seeping back into the wall thanks to its properties such as high adhesion and good water resistance. This helps protect the wall from moisture and mold, while creating conditions for long-term use of the house.
How to waterproof house walls effectively with cement
Step 1: Surface preparation
Before starting construction, it is necessary to remove the old paint, mortar or materials that are still stuck on the wall. Then, clean the wall surface with clean water and let it dry completely. If the wall surface has cracks, it is necessary to widen the cracks and clean them thoroughly.
Step 2: Mix the cement
Next, mix cement with water in a 1:3 ratio (1 part cement and 3 parts water). Mix well until the mixture is homogeneous and there are no more lumps.
Step 3: Waterproofing
Use a brush or a broom to apply the cement mortar to the wall surface. Make sure the mortar is applied evenly and is about 2 - 3mm thick. If the wall has large cracks, a thicker layer of cement mortar must be applied in that area. Then, let the mortar dry for about 24 hours.
Step 4: Apply the mortar coating
After the cement mortar layer has completely dried, apply the mortar coating by mixing cement with water in a ratio of 1:2 (1 part cement and 2 parts water). Apply the mortar coating to the wall surface and let it dry for about 24 hours.
Step 5: Apply the topcoat
Finally, apply a topcoat to protect the cement mortar and create a glossy surface for the wall. Choose the type of paint that matches the color and material of the wall to create a beautiful and effectively waterproof wall.
Note, when waterproofing walls with cement, you should use high-quality cement for best results. Avoid construction in rainy weather or high temperatures. At the same time, you should not construct when the wall surface is still damp or has large cracks.
To ensure the durability and effectiveness of the cement mortar layer, it is necessary to follow the correct steps and adhere to the correct mixing ratio.
