The first rain of the season helps the spring rice fields in Nghe Ven village have enough water and are greener. Ms. Luong Thi Anh, a household in the village, happily said: My family cultivates 2,000 m² of rice fields. This spring crop, we planted seeds in early April, the weather was favorable, warm and sunny, enough water, and we followed the right time frame and technical instructions from agricultural extension officers, so the rice grew well and evenly. My family planted N87 and N97 glutinous rice varieties. Currently, we are focusing on weeding so that the rice plants can enter the tillering stage. Hopefully the weather will continue to be favorable, the rice plants will grow well so that this year's crop will have a high yield, giving people a bumper crop.
The field of more than 20 hectares of Poi Lanh village is also spreading out in green. Mr. Ha Van Binh, Poi Lanh village, said: According to experience, for local sticky rice plants that are 5 to 6 weeks old, this is an important stage that determines productivity, so right after weeding, the family applied the first dose of NPK fertilizer to help the rice plants take root and grow branches quickly. The family also exchanged labor with several households in the village to support each other in pruning and weeding the rice, applying the first dose of fertilization, and maintaining a reasonable water source to help the rice plants grow branches, grow and develop well.
To produce a successful spring rice crop, right from the beginning of the year, the People's Committee of Muong Va commune assigned specific planting targets to each village; assigned agricultural extension officers to closely follow the area, provide technical guidance on rice care for the people, closely monitor weather developments and recommend production within the right time frame. The commune also directed the management boards of the villages to proactively regulate water sources at dams and dykes, and allocate them reasonably to each field; mobilized people to dredge canals, actively lead water into the fields, maintain reasonable water levels and use irrigation water economically and effectively. In addition, the commune increased propaganda and instructed people to use the right type and dosage of fertilizers such as NPK, nitrogen, and potassium for the first top dressing of rice plants.
The current hot and humid weather creates favorable conditions for rice to take root and tiller, but it is also the time when many types of pests and diseases arise such as: yellow dwarf, leaf curl dwarf, brown planthopper, small leaf roller, leaf spot, etc. Mr. Lo Van Huong, Vice Chairman of Muong Va Commune People's Committee, said: Golden apple snail eggs have begun to appear in the fields of the commune. In this situation, the commune coordinates with the District Agricultural Service Center, directing agricultural extension officers to closely monitor the fields and the situation of pests and diseases. When pests are detected, people will be instructed to spray pesticides promptly to prevent them from spreading widely. Along with that, the commune continues to propagate and instruct farmers to take advantage of favorable weather to prune, weed, fertilize the first batch and proactively inspect the fields to promptly detect and treat pests and diseases.
In addition to paying attention to pest control, in the rice fields of Muong Va commune, farmers in the villages also clear grass on the banks, clear bushes around the rice fields, and avoid rats and insects. The commune also requires the villages to check, review and repair some damaged irrigation canals, dredge canals and use irrigation water economically and effectively; not to let water shortages affect the growth of rice plants. It is recommended that people increase the use of organic fertilizers combined with synthetic fertilizers in rice care. Depending on the terrain and nutritional conditions of the rice cultivation areas, choose the appropriate fertilization.
With the strong and synchronous direction of the local Party Committee and government and the initiative of farmers, up to now, spring rice in Muong Va commune is growing well. However, with unusual weather developments and the risk of pests and diseases that may appear at each stage of rice growth, farmers need to proactively visit the fields regularly and apply timely preventive and control measures as soon as pests and diseases are detected. This will help the rice plants grow healthily, ensuring high productivity and economic efficiency.
