(VTC News) - Runway 1 at Long Thanh Airport has been powered on and is now illuminated, ready for calibration flights, three months ahead of the original schedule.

The first runway at Long Thanh Airport is 4 km long and 70 m wide, capable of accommodating the most modern aircraft currently in operation. This is one of the items under package 4.6, with a total value of over 7,000 billion VND, including taxiways, connecting taxiways, rapid exit taxiways, aircraft parking areas, and parking areas for ground service vehicles.

According to VTC News reporters, in mid-May, in addition to the completed runway, many other items under package 4.6, such as the aircraft parking area and the ground service vehicle parking area, were also being urgently implemented.

The runway lighting system is fully installed, using 100% LED technology imported from Europe, meeting the highest technical standards in the international aviation industry. Long Thanh Airport is also equipped with an ILS/DME precision landing guidance system, supporting aircraft in approaching and landing safely, even in bad weather conditions.

These two systems work together in a synchronized manner, ensuring that takeoffs and landings are absolutely safe and precise in all weather conditions.

This achievement is thanks to the efforts of ACV, the Long Thanh Project Management Board, and the consortium of contractors, who mobilized 1,025 personnel, 243 pieces of equipment, and deployed 30 construction teams to complete the installation of the air traffic control equipment system in accordance with international standards.

The drainage and tunnel section, spanning over 22 km, is being constructed urgently by contractors to ensure timely completion. This is one of the key infrastructure components, playing a crucial role in the overall completion of the project. It is expected to be completed by the end of June 2025, creating a favorable foundation for subsequent construction phases.

Alongside the runway construction, the construction of the Long Thanh Airport passenger terminal (package 5.10) is also being accelerated. On the construction site, thousands of workers and machinery are working continuously in three shifts to ensure the project stays on schedule.

The items included in this tender package are the construction of a passenger terminal, comprising a central terminal and three wings, with a structure of one ground floor and three upper floors, and a roof peak height of 45 m. The total floor area of ​​the terminal is approximately 376,451 m².

According to the Long Thanh Airport Project Management Board, the passenger terminal, considered the "heart" of Phase 1 of the Long Thanh Airport Project, is the most important component. The terminal's reinforced concrete structure for the underground and upper levels has been completed, and the installation of steel structures, glass curtain walls, and necessary equipment is underway.

Located approximately 1 km from the passenger terminal, the Long Thanh Airport Air Traffic Control Tower, construction of which began in late September 2023, is progressing rapidly. Designed in the shape of a lotus bud, the structure has a total investment of 3,500 billion VND and features colors and architectural design that harmonize with the passenger terminal and surrounding buildings.
