In the 2022-2023 Winter-Spring crop, Tien Giang will plant 47,440 hectares and over 20,000 hectares of various food crops. The locality strives to achieve a 2022-2023 Winter-Spring crop output of over 335,000 tons of rice for consumption and export, and over 400,000 tons of commercial vegetables to supply markets inside and outside the province.

Tien Giang province has synchronously deployed solutions to protect production, prevent and combat drought and salinity, and mitigate natural disasters in the 2022-2023 dry season. In particular, it has improved the irrigation network to serve production, actively collected fresh water stored in the fields to proactively irrigate, not allowing natural disasters to cause harm while creating the premise for a new bumper crop.

Right from the beginning of the 2022-2023 dry season, Tien Giang invested over 864 billion VND in constructing sluice and dam projects to prevent salinity and store fresh water along the northern bank of the Tien River, including Cai Son, Mu U, Hai Tan, Cay Cong, Phu Phong and Rach Gam. Currently, construction units are urgently speeding up the progress, striving to basically complete the projects in June 2023 to promote the effectiveness of natural disaster prevention, production protection and life. Dredging 544 irrigation works and canals with a total length of over 888,000m and an excavated and filled volume of over 1.44 million m3 of soil to ensure water sources for production in the 2022-2023 Winter-Spring crop.

Besides, taking advantage of the dry season, Tien Giang mobilized forces to carry out irrigation in the fields, clear water hyacinth and weeds, clear obstacles in the canal bed, and clear the flow, especially the main canals, level 1 canals, and level 2 canals to promote irrigation efficiency and serve production.

At the same time, the locality focuses on building a reasonable production schedule to ensure effective response to drought and salinity that are harmful to crops in the winter-spring crop. Difficult areas are encouraged to change crops and seasons to adapt to climate change, mitigate natural disasters and bring high economic efficiency to farmers.

In addition, the province focuses on propagating, mobilizing, and encouraging people to actively store fresh water in ponds, canals, and fields in conjunction with economical use of water, raising awareness of keeping water sources clean, not dumping garbage and contaminated water into water supplies, and limiting water pollution in the dry season of 2022-2023./.
