Proactively respond to heavy rain, flash floods and landslides

The Department of Agriculture and Environment has just sent an official dispatch to departments, branches, sectors, People's Committees of communes, wards, special zones and reservoir management units on proactively responding to local heavy rains, flash floods and landslides.

According to forecasts, Khanh Hoa will have moderate to heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain from November 13 to 18. To proactively respond, the Department of Agriculture and Environment requests the People's Committees of communes, wards, and special zones to organize inspections of vulnerable areas at risk of flash floods, landslides, low-lying areas, and flooding; proactively develop disaster prevention and control scenarios and clearly identify plans for evacuation, relocation of people, forces, means and necessary equipment. In particular, arrange forces to guard and block off culverts, spillways, and areas with deep flooding and fast-flowing water to ensure the safety of people's lives.

Reservoir management units strictly organize shifts, monitor the water level of reservoirs; operate reservoirs according to approved procedures to ensure safety of works and limit flooding in downstream areas. At the same time, proactively develop and implement plans to lower reservoir water levels to create capacity to receive floods.

Construction investors must implement measures to ensure construction safety when there are heavy rains and floods, especially ensuring the safety of workers and people in the construction area; and organize reinforcement of vehicles and equipment. The Provincial Hydrometeorological Station continues to closely monitor the development of rains and floods, the risk of landslides and flash floods, and promptly inform the authorities, local authorities and people to proactively respond.

According to the assessment of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, from November 13 to 18, there will be a period of rain in the province. Specifically, from November 13 to 15, Khanh Hoa province will have showers in some places, with a common amount of less than 20mm. From November 16 to 18, the province will have moderate rain, heavy rain, and some places will have very heavy rain and thunderstorms. The total rainfall is 40-80mm/day. In the northern and western regions, some places will have over 100mm/day. The total rainfall for the whole period (from November 13 to 18) is from 150 to 250mm. In the northern and western regions, some places will have over 300mm/period.
