On April 19 (local time), Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel was elected for a second five-year term in a vote at the National Assembly .

Mr. Diaz-Canel won 97.66% of the vote, according to the announcement of the President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez. Mr. Diaz-Canel, 62, began his first term in 2018.

Previously, Cuban voters elected 470 deputies to the 10th National Assembly in the general election held at the end of March.

According to the plan, the 10th National Assembly will also directly elect the VicePresident , and at the same time approve the appointment of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Ministers, Secretary and other members of the Council of Ministers at the proposal of the President.

Previously, on March 26, Cuba held elections for the 10th National Assembly for the next 5-year term. More than 8 million eligible voters participated in the vote to elect 470 National Assembly deputies. Cuba considers this election an opportunity to demonstrate national unity./.
