On the afternoon of July 4, at the Presidential Palace,President To Lam received New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Caroline Beresford.

At the meeting, the President congratulated the leaders and people of New Zealand on their achievements in socio-economic development and foreign affairs and asked the Ambassador to convey his regards to Governor-General of New Zealand Cindy Kiro.

The President expressed his delight at the strong development of the Vietnam-New Zealand Strategic Partnership in recent times. The President emphasized that 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations and 5 years of the Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and New Zealand, is an important milestone for the two countries to propose meaningful activities, including arranging high-level visits, contributing to further deepening cooperation in all fields, towards bringing the relationship to new heights.

The President highly appreciated the close cooperation in the field of defense and security between the two countries, demonstrating mutual trust; welcomed the positive developments in economic and trade cooperation; thanked New Zealand for supporting English language and specialized training for central and local officials of Vietnam; and asked the New Zealand Government to continue creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to study, live and work in New Zealand. Vietnam and New Zealand always coordinate closely at multilateral forums, including the United Nations and APEC; share many common views on regional and international issues as a foundation for strengthening cooperation, contributing to building a peaceful, stable and developed Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean region.

Ambassador Caroline Beresford expressed her delight at taking up her post in Vietnam - one of New Zealand's important partners in the region. The Ambassador agreed that 2025 is an opportunity for the two countries to strengthen and deepen the Vietnam-New Zealand relationship; affirmed that she will make efforts to coordinate with agencies, ministries and sectors of the two countries to promote cooperation in potential areas, hoping that during her term, she will bring the relationship between the two countries to a new height with practical and effective contents; hoping that Vietnam, as the coordinator of ASEAN-New Zealand relations from July 2024 to July 2027, will contribute to further strengthening the relationship between New Zealand and the Southeast Asian region.
