President Tran Dai Quang meets with Lao General Secretary and President

President Tran Dai Quang suggested that the two sides continue to closely coordinate to improve the quality of existing cooperation mechanisms and strengthen close cooperation in security and defense.

On the morning of December 20, at the Presidential Palace, President Tran Dai Quang met with General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President of the Lao PDR Bounnhang Vorachith, who is on an official friendship visit to Vietnam.

On behalf of the State and people of Vietnam, President Tran Dai Quang warmly welcomed General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith and the high-ranking delegation of the Lao Party and State to their official friendship visit to Vietnam; affirming that the visit is an important political event, a milestone of historical significance in the relationship between the two Parties, two States and peoples, and at the same time brings to the Vietnamese people deep feelings, great friendship, solidarity, and the loyal and pure attachment of the Lao Party, State and people.

Lao General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith expressed his pleasure at his second official visit to Vietnam in his capacity as General Secretary and President of Laos. He sincerely thanked President Tran Dai Quang, the leaders and people of Vietnam for giving the high-ranking delegation of the Lao Party and State a very respectful, thoughtful and fraternal welcome.

President Tran Dai Quang congratulated the great, comprehensive and historic achievements that the Lao Party, State and people have achieved over 30 years of renovation and the important results after two years of implementing the Resolution of the 10th Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party; expressed his belief that the Lao Party, State and people will continue to achieve even greater new achievements, successfully implement the Resolution of the 10th Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the 8th Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan; and successfully build Laos into an increasingly prosperous and developed country.

Lao General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith congratulated Vietnam on successfully performing its role as host of APEC 2017 and sincerely thanked President Tran Dai Quang for inviting Laos to attend the APEC Summit Week in Da Nang; and expressed his condolences to the Party, State and people of Vietnam for the loss of lives and property in the recent storms and floods.

President Tran Dai Quang sincerely thanked the Lao Party, State and people for always giving the Vietnamese Party, State and people great, valuable and effective support and assistance in the past cause of national liberation and reunification as well as in the cause of Doi Moi, construction and protection of the Fatherland today; expressed his joy at the special solidarity relationship between Vietnam and Laos that is increasingly developing deeply and extensively in all fields, reflected in the depth of political relations, close and effective cooperation in national defense and security and the positive changes in economic, educational, cultural, scientific and technological cooperation, contributing significantly to maintaining political stability and socio-economic development in each country; highly appreciated the two sides' successful coordination in organizing activities of the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2017, emphasizing that such success has comprehensive and profound significance, is a major event in the political life of the two peoples, and is an important milestone in Vietnam-Laos relations.

President Tran Dai Quang suggested that the two sides continue to closely coordinate to improve the quality of existing cooperation mechanisms; strengthen close cooperation in security and defense; implement cooperation projects on schedule and with quality; promptly resolve difficulties and problems to continuously improve the effectiveness of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Lao General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith agreed to highly appreciate the strong developments in the bilateral relationship in recent times, in all fields, from politics, security and defense, to economy and society; informed President Tran Dai Quang about the results of implementing various and practical activities across Laos within the framework of the Year of Solidarity and Friendship, to celebrate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship and Cooperation Treaty; affirmed that the Lao Party, State and people will continue to make every effort, together with the Party, State and people of Vietnam, to foster and strengthen the traditional friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, making it increasingly deeper, more practical and effective.

The two leaders stressed the need for both sides to continue to strengthen, exchange information in a timely manner, closely coordinate and support each other at international and regional forums, especially at the United Nations, ASEAN and Mekong Sub-region cooperation mechanisms for peace and stability in the region, contributing to maintaining peace, security, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

On this occasion, President Tran Dai Quang sincerely thanked the valuable gesture of the Lao Party, State and people for their timely and practical support and assistance, both spiritually and materially, to the Vietnamese people in areas affected by natural disasters, storms and floods, considering it a great source of encouragement for the Vietnamese people, a vivid expression of the tradition of sharing joys and sorrows, sharing hardships, "biting a grain of rice in half, breaking a stalk of vegetable in half" of the Vietnamese and Lao peoples.
