On the morning of June 9, at the Presidential Palace,President Vo Van Thuong received Ms. Marinela Petkova, Ambassador of Bulgaria, who came to say goodbye at the end of her term in Vietnam.
President Vo Van Thuong congratulated the Bulgarian Ambassador on successfully completing his term in Vietnam with many important contributions to developing the traditional friendship and enhancing multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
Ambassador Marinela Petkova sincerely thanked President Vo Van Thuong for taking the time to meet her; thanked the Vietnamese authorities for creating favorable conditions for the Ambassador to successfully complete her duties during her term; affirmed that Bulgaria always attaches importance to the traditional friendship with Vietnam and wishes to promote multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam. The Ambassador said that during her term, she spent time learning and experiencing many good things about the country and people of Vietnam, thereby opening up opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
Recalling Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan's visit to Bulgaria in 2021, the Ambassador said that the visit demonstrated that the two countries' senior leaders always wanted to strengthen and promote bilateral relations. Since the COVID-19 pandemic was gradually controlled, trade activities between the two countries have strongly recovered. On this occasion, the Ambassador sent President Vo Van Thuong an invitation to visit Bulgaria from the Bulgarian President. The Ambassador expressed that in the future, no matter what position he holds, he will always cultivate and promote the relationship between the two countries.
President Vo Van Thuong thanked the Bulgarian President for his invitation; at the same time, through the Ambassador, the President invited the Bulgarian President to visit Vietnam soon. With the foundation of traditional friendship and long-standing ties, the President expressed his belief that the Vietnam-Bulgaria relationship will develop even better in the future. The President suggested that in the coming time, the two countries should increase high-level and all-level contacts, as a basis for promoting cooperation in all fields.
Assessing that bilateral trade relations have grown strongly in recent times, the President said that the results have not yet matched the potential and aspirations of the two countries. The President suggested that the two sides soon hold the 24th Session of the Vietnam - Bulgaria Intergovernmental Committee on Economic , Trade and Scientific Cooperation in 2023; and suggested that Bulgaria soon ratify the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), creating conditions for the business community and investors from the EU, Bulgaria and Vietnam to participate more actively in each other's markets. The two sides need to continue to cooperate and support each other at international forums.
Appreciating Bulgaria for creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese people to live, study and work in Bulgaria, the President suggested that the two sides promote people-to-people exchanges; especially promoting more strongly tourism cooperation activities so that more and more Bulgarian tourists will visit the beautiful country of Vietnam. On this occasion, President Vo Van Thuong thanked Bulgaria for helping Vietnam train many highly qualified officials over the years, thereby actively contributing to tightening the relationship between the two countries.
