The project “Supporting Green Circular Economy through Improving Agricultural Value Chains in Northern Vietnam” is a cooperation initiative between the People’s Committee of Bac Kan Province and KOICA, aiming to promote sustainable development in the agricultural sector. The project focuses on three strategic value chains: turmeric, cassava and fragrant green squash, and is planned to be implemented in Ba Be, Na Ri districts and Bac Kan city.

With non-refundable aid from the Korean Government through KOICA, the total project budget is about 20 million USD, focusing on activities such as improving production infrastructure, supporting credit for producers, enhancing processing capacity and developing markets. In particular, the project focuses on improving farmers' capacity, supporting sustainable production techniques and expanding domestic and international market connections.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Dang Binh affirmed that Bac Kan province always attaches importance to and highly appreciates KOICA's support in socio-economic development, especially the project towards green circular economy. He emphasized that the province will create all favorable conditions for the project to be implemented effectively.

On the KOICA side, Mr. Lee Gunwoo, Deputy Country Director at KOICA Vietnam Office, expressed his confidence in the cooperation between the two sides. He said that KOICA is committed to providing technical, financial and resource support necessary for the project to achieve its objectives, contributing to increasing income and improving the quality of life of local people.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed the project implementation plan, ensuring progress and effectiveness. Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Dang Binh requested relevant departments and branches to closely coordinate with the Project Coordination Board, ensuring transparent information and the implementation process according to plan. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested KOICA to continue supporting Bac Kan province in human resource training, technology transfer and sharing of international experiences.

According to the plan, from May 12 to 16, 2025, the KOICA delegation will work in districts and cities of Bac Kan. Activities include surveying agricultural value chains in Nong Thuong commune, Bac Kan city; Quang Phong commune, Na Ri district; Dia Linh commune and Yen Duong commune, Ba Be district. The delegation will also hold in-depth discussions with departments and branches of Bac Kan province such as the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Provincial Women's Union, and the Provincial Cooperative Union. At the same time, they will conduct field surveys of infrastructure works, discuss plans to improve ecotourism, and explore the need for technical assistance for local cooperatives.

Through this working trip, KOICA will better understand the actual situation, creating a basis for adjusting and optimizing the Project implementation plan in Bac Kan province./.
