Tien Giang is a key rice province in the Mekong Delta. In the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, the whole province planted 42,282 hectares, reaching 103.1% of the plan, with a yield of 66.4 quintals/ha and an output of 280,765 tons.

Tien Giang has over 200 rice milling enterprises with a capacity of over 2.7 million tons/year. Currently, 6 enterprises in the province have been granted certificates of eligibility for rice export business by the Ministry of Industry and Trade .

In 2024, Tien Giang's export turnover will reach 6.5 billion USD. Of which, rice exports will reach 182,264 tons, worth 116.51 million USD, up 3.91% in volume and 10.81% in value over the same period. The Philippines is the province's largest rice import market, accounting for 44.09% in value; followed by China (17.94%), Africa (13.11%) and Hong Kong (12.24%).

Rice export results in 2024, first 4 months of 2025
Director of Tien Giang Department of Industry and Trade Luu Van Phi reported on rice export results in 2024 and the first months of 2025 of Tien Giang at the conference.

In the first months of 2025, Tien Giang's rice exports are estimated to reach 187,682 tons, with an estimated value of 92.46 million USD, up 154% in volume and 94.78% in value over the same period. The Philippines continues to be the largest market, accounting for 50.80% in value; followed by China (23.14%) and South Africa (18.33%).

Tien Giang province's rice exports still face many difficulties such as small-scale production, limited preservation and processing, low added value, mainly exporting raw rice, lacking deeply processed rice products, depending on the policies of major exporting countries, high logistics costs, etc.

To improve rice export efficiency, Tien Giang proposed to reorganize large-scale production, invest in upgrading drying, milling, and storage systems, develop brands and increase added value, increase support for farmers and businesses in pesticide residue testing and plant quarantine, meet the requirements of demanding markets, attract investment in deep processing and logistics, and diversify export markets.

The province also proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade provide specific guidance on warehouse documents, milling and processing facilities, and propose hiring a price appraisal company for long-standing factories without input invoices.

According to the General Department of Customs, in 2024, Vietnam exported 9.04 million tons of rice worth 5.67 billion USD, up 11.1% in volume and 21.2% in value compared to 2023. In the first 4 months of 2025, rice exports reached more than 3.43 million tons (nearly 1.77 billion USD), of which the Philippines was the largest market.

Although rice export management contributes to good consumption and increased value, there are still challenges such as: undiversified markets, increased production and transportation costs, and fierce competition from India and Thailand.

The supply of winter-spring rice in 2024-2025 is stable with an estimated output of 13.7-13.8 million tons of rice. The volume of commercial rice in the Mekong Delta in 2025 is expected to reach about 7.5 million tons. The demand for imported rice from markets such as the Philippines, China, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Africa is forecast to remain high.
