On August 4, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc awarded a certificate of merit to Cao Thanh Dat (26 years old, residing in Tan Hai ward, Ho Chi Minh City) for his outstanding achievement in saving the lives of two people at the swimming pool of a villa in Vung Tau ward (Vung Tau city, former Ba Ria - Vung Tau province ), Ho Chi Minh City.
Dat is the young man who saved the lives of a mother and child in Vung Tau ward, as reported by Thanh Nien Newspaper in the article "26-year-old man tries to save the lives of a mother and child at the bottom of a swimming pool".
Previously, on the afternoon of July 31, Dat and a friend went to a villa in Vung Tau ward (HCMC) to use a flycam to fly around and record videos to introduce guests to rent rooms, visit, and relax.
While Dat was filming at the swimming pool area, he saw two children aged 4-7 wearing life jackets swimming in the pool. After filming outside the villa, Dat and his friend went inside to continue filming.
After filming the entire villa, Dat and his friend were leaving when they heard the screams of a 7-year-old girl. Following the girl's direction, Dat quickly went to the swimming pool and saw the girl's mother lying close to the bottom of the pool.
Dat quickly jumped into the pool and brought the mother and child to shore. At this time, the child was motionless, her stomach was full from drinking too much water. The child had stopped breathing and was cyanotic.
Dat continuously used his hands to press on the baby's chest and give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. After nearly a minute of breathing and pressing on the baby's chest, a little water came out. Dat told his friend to call an ambulance while he continued to give first aid to the baby.
After nearly 5 minutes of first aid, the child gasped and coughed a few times. Dat continued to give first aid to the child, waiting for the ambulance to arrive and take both victims to the emergency medical facility.
The incident of Dat rescuing a mother and child from the bottom of a swimming pool was posted on social media, and Tan Hai Ward Police called to get the young man's information to propose a reward. After that, Tan Hai Ward People's Committee made a proposal to Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to award a certificate of merit to Dat.
Talking to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter, Dat shared: "I am very proud and happy to receive a certificate of merit from the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc. I think anyone who witnessed that scene would have acted like me. Through this incident, I hope everyone will be more careful when watching children playing to ensure safety." Dat also said that the health of the mother and child is currently stable, especially the baby has completely recovered.
