As one of the districts of Hanoi that was heavily damaged by storm No. 3, immediately after the storm dissipated, the District Departmentof Education and Training and the ward authorities mobilized forces to clean up broken branches, trash, and clean the environment so that teaching and learning would not be interrupted.
For the future of our children
During September 10-12, when the Red River water level reached alert level 2, local authorities had to constantly monitor the river water situation to plan to evacuate students to prevent flooding at educational facilities in the coastal areas of Linh Nam, Thanh Tri, and Tran Phu wards.
Of the 92 educational institutions in Hoang Mai district, 3 schools belonging to the MAY education system were the most severely affected, with 27 trees falling from 4 directions onto the school, blocking the entrance. The fallen trees also damaged several classrooms.
Thanks to the active efforts of the leaders of Hoang Mai district, Dinh Cong ward has basically overcome the situation of large fallen trees blocking the way, 10 days after the storm.
Assistant to the Chairwoman of the MAY School Board, Mai Thi Thuy Dung, said that the school is a private inter-level school (from kindergarten to high school) with nearly 3,000 students, and was severely damaged by storm No. 3. Over the past week, the Chairman/Vice Chairman of the Hoang Mai District People's Committee visited the school three times to inspect and urge the work to overcome the consequences.
The District Education and Training Department and the People's Committee of Dinh Cong Ward have mobilized people, machinery and equipment to support the school to soon stabilize teaching and learning. On the morning of September 16, more than 1,700 May Primary and Secondary School students went to school, 798 high school students studied online until today.
In the joy of going to school, student Le Minh Duc of class 4A2 said that after a whole week of staying at home, he missed school, his friends, and his teachers. Yesterday, when he went to school and witnessed a series of fallen trees, he and his friends understood more about the hardships and difficulties that the teachers and staff had to carry out.
As of September 16, 91/92 educational institutions in Hoang Mai district have been teaching normally, except for May Kindergarten (260 students) which has to renovate its facilities and is expected to be able to welcome children back to school on September 23, 2024.
Head of the Department of Education and Training of Hoang Mai district Pham Dam Thuc Hanh said that the volume of fallen trees around MAY school is quite large, temporarily the People's Committee of Dinh Cong ward has just organized environmental sanitation forces, temporarily sawed down trees to open the way for parents to take their children to school, it will take a few days for things to really stabilize and return to normal.
Bright Spot
Meanwhile, 100% of the staff, teachers and employees of Hoa Mi Kindergarten (Hoang Liet Ward) are urgently cleaning the environment and wiping down tables and chairs to prepare for the opening of 350 students for the new school year in early October. This is a project with a signboard welcoming the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024) of Hoang Mai District.
According to the design, the school has 20 classrooms, which can accommodate about 700 students in Hoang Liet ward, a locality with a population of about 92,000 people, the largest in Hanoi . Hoang Mai district is reviewing the damage caused by the storm, to plan for repairs, and is determined to start the school year on schedule.
One of the bright spots of education in Hoang Mai district during the days of storm prevention and recovery is Linh Nam Secondary School, with more than 700 students (accounting for 30% of the school's students) whose houses are located on the banks of the Red River. After giving gifts to 30 disadvantaged students in the flooded areas affected by the Red River, on the morning of September 16, the school continued to give 83 Mid-Autumn Festival gifts to 83 students in difficult circumstances.
In addition, the school's staff donated more than 31 million VND to support students of Minh Chuan Primary and Secondary School ( Yen Bai province) who were severely affected by storm No. 3 to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. On the same day, the school donated 1 day's salary to the district's Fatherland Front.
In addition, there are also beautiful images of the Hoang Mai education sector that have been spread recently. Right in the flood area, teachers and students of Linh Nam school proactively "shared their food and clothes" to donate to support areas with more severe damage than their own, touching the emotions of many people.
