In a story about Tet (Vietnamese New Year), Mr. Sinh said that his family is quite large, with many children, grandchildren, and relatives. During Tet, his family usually slaughters a large pig, weighing over 100 kilograms, to use as food for the ancestral worship ceremony and to welcome guests who come to celebrate the New Year.
Walking through the villages of Sin Thau, the atmosphere of spring permeates every home. These days in this border commune, the Ha Nhi people are all preparing to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year) with joy and excitement. Every household plans to slaughter pigs and chickens, and make sticky rice cakes to offer to their ancestors and to entertain guests.

The family of Mr. Hờ A Lệnh in Nậm Pố 2 village (Mường Nhé commune) is meticulously crafting beautiful and melodious flutes in preparation for the 2024 Spring Festival.
Having settled in Nậm Pố 2 village for 16 years, although his family doesn't have much farmland, Mr. Lệnh knows how to make Hmong flutes using traditional methods.
With his diligence, hard work, and passion for creating resonant-sounding flutes, Mr. Leinh has supported himself and his family for many years through his craft. In his fifties, he continues to pass on his skills to his children and young people in the village who share his passion for flute making.
According to Mr. Leinh, the Hmong mouth organ is used to play for the deceased and for cultural and artistic festivals. The mouth organs produced are not only sold locally but are also sought after by foreigners.
The spirit of spring is now filling the villages of Muong Nha.
During the Lunar New Year celebrations, Ha Nhi ethnic women always wear their traditional clothing.
Speaking with reporters, Mr. Bui Minh Hai, Secretary of the Muong Nha District Party Committee, said that the district still faces many difficulties and shortages, but the economic and cultural lives of the people have been gradually improving, and the ethnic communities are working together to build their border homeland into an increasingly prosperous and beautiful place.
"Building on the achievements, in the coming time, the Party Committee of Muong Nha district will continue to direct all levels of government to focus on effectively implementing national target programs; improving the quality of investment in infrastructure construction; and eradicating hunger and poverty quickly and sustainably in the area," Mr. Bui Minh Hai shared.
In the characteristic spring atmosphere of Northwest Vietnam, with the pink of wild peach blossoms, the white of bauhinia flowers, and the yellow of wild sunflowers… a peaceful and tranquil Tet holiday is evident in the eyes and smiles of the people in the far west of the country.
