Poverty reduction story in Bac Ha

The family of Mr. Trang Seo Khua was the first household to grow VH6 pear trees in Hoang Ha village, Hoang Thu Pho commune, Bac Ha district. Currently, his family's pear garden has grown to 3 hectares. This year, although only 0.4 hectares of pears are harvested, they have earned 250 million VND, helping his family escape poverty and become a well-off household in the commune. Mr. Khua said: "Pear trees have much higher economic value than corn. In the future, I will learn to improve the quality of the fruit and increase the value of pears."

The success of Mr. Khua as well as many other households in Bac Ha comes from the fact that the locality has determined that agricultural development is still the main direction to help people reduce poverty quickly and sustainably.

In addition, the district also proactively connects and sends workers to work in domestic and foreign companies and enterprises. Bac Ha currently has nearly 6,000 workers working in large factories and industrial parks nationwide. With an average salary of about 10 million VND/person/month, this source of income is helping thousands of households in the area stabilize their lives.

Bac Ha's average annual poverty reduction rate reached over 7.6%.

Mr. Giang Seo Tra, Nam Tho village, Thai Giang Pho commune, Bac Ha district shared: “Working in a company has a higher income, working at home has a very low income. My child works in a company, I stay at home and work extra to escape poverty quickly.”

To support the people in their journey to escape poverty sustainably, the district also promotes the pioneering role of party members and leaders, mobilizing and balancing resources to support poor households and poor communes to rise up. Thanks to that, the average annual poverty reduction rate of the district reaches over 7.6% and is the locality with the highest poverty reduction rate in the province in recent years.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Hoa, Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Bac Ha district emphasized: "The district is preparing for the 2025 plan, which is to focus on its strengths to stabilize the economy. In agriculture, stabilize the production of key crops, promote cultural and tourism activities; coordinate with businesses in creating jobs, creating stable income for the people".

The results are very encouraging, but the journey to escape poverty in this highland locality still has many difficulties and challenges. The poor in the "white plateau" will not be alone, many important resources and solutions are being focused on by the district, aiming to create new momentum and new resilience for the poor to be more confident on the journey to overcome poverty.
