(QNO) - While looking for an outlet for seedless lemons, Gie Trieng girl Ho Thuy Thi Linh (born in 1989, Kham Duc town, Phuoc Son) researched, processed deeply and launched a product of lemon extract with rock sugar, which was initially welcomed by the market.
By chance, Ho Thuy Thi Linh learned about Cao chanh duong tam - a formula of Chinese medicine shared by a friend. After many years working in the medical field, Ms. Linh applied the formula and tried it for her family to use effectively, such as reducing coughs, phlegm and sore throats... Gradually, this Gie Trieng girl made more to share with neighbors and received many positive responses.
“In 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, I made lemon and rock sugar products to give away and help many people treat coughs and effectively reduce sore throats after Covid-19. Since then, my family and friends encouraged me to invest and increase production of this product,” said Linh.
According to Ho Thi Thuy Linh, the motivation for her to confidently produce lemon extract with rock sugar is the local seedless lemon variety with good quality, which is grown a lot by the people, meeting the 3-star OCOP standard but the output is difficult. She believes that when there is a deeply processed and quality product, this agricultural product will be consumed. Then she decided to invest in the lemon extract with rock sugar product.
Linh researches, selects quality raw materials and builds product processes. She shares that after purchasing fresh lemons, they are soaked in salt to reduce bitterness and remove dirt. Then, the lemons are sliced, soaked in crystallized rock sugar and steamed for 12 hours in a purple clay pot at a certain temperature.
“I use a purple clay pot because this type of pot is airtight and does not let steam escape, so it retains the medicinal properties of lemon, ensuring food safety and hygiene. This product has only two ingredients: lemon and rock sugar, without any additives or preservatives, so it is safe for users,” said Ms. Linh.
After one year of production and business, Thuy Duong lemon and rock sugar is now trusted by many customers and is present in many major markets such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi , Da Nang...
Each jar of lemon and rock sugar syrup costs 100,000 VND. On average, Ms. Linh sells 2,000 - 3,000 products per year, equivalent to more than 1 ton of fresh lemons.
At the end of 2022, the Thuy Duong brand of sugarcane juice was recognized as meeting the provincial 3-star OCOP standard.
Ms. Linh is worried that there are quite a lot of orders but the facility is still small in scale and cannot meet the demand. Therefore, in the coming time, Ms. Linh and her husband will focus on expanding the production facility, investing in machinery and equipment, building a brand and promoting trade for the product. At the same time, they will promote existing medical knowledge to research and develop other products from lemon to increase the value of this agricultural product, contributing to helping people in the highlands feel secure in production and escape poverty.
