During the opening round of the prestigious major, Ballester became a hot topic when he was caught urinating into Rae's Creek, near the 13th green at Augusta National.
However, Ballester not only admitted to the incident, but also said that if he had to do it again, he would do the same thing. The incident quickly spread on social media, even appearing in newspapers outside the golf world.
In an interview after the second round, when asked if he had received any feedback from Augusta organizers, Ballester said he had apologized and wanted to close the matter.
“I have apologized to them, and I think we should put this matter behind us,” said the Spanish golfer.
Ballester said he became disoriented and forgot where the restroom was in the rush. “I completely forgot there was a restroom to the left of the tee box,” Ballester explained. “Justin Thomas was having trouble on the green, I just figured no one would notice.”

Ballester, a member of the Arizona State University golf team, earned a ticket to The Masters in 2025, after winning the US Amateur last summer.
The 21-year-old missed the cut, shooting 76 and 78, but said it was a valuable experience to play alongside defending champion Scottie Scheffler and two-time major champion Justin Thomas.
“They have excellent greenside skills, deep course knowledge, and a great ability to read slopes and greens,” Ballester said.
“I hit a lot of good shots both days, but I definitely saw the biggest difference between us around the greens,” Ballester said. “It wasn’t a good week for me in that regard, but I’m looking forward to the next few opportunities to see how I can compete with them.”
