Opportunity for Vietnamese and international students to compete in making films using AI

The international film competition held in Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of students from nearly 100 universities from 15 countries and territories emphasized the application of advanced technology, including artificial intelligence, to express new artistic ideas.


For the first time, the International Student Film Festival (ISMA 2025) will take place in Vietnam, hosted by Van Lang University from now until June, emphasizing the role of technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), in the fields of art and media.

This event brings together students from nearly 100 universities from 15 countries and territories around the world . Among them, there are many famous schools such as Beijing Academy of Film Arts, China Academy of Art, New York University, Michigan State University... and many schools from the US, Europe, Korea, Australia, Brazil...

Students from Vietnamese and international universities can submit their works to the International Student Film Festival (ISMA 2025).

ISMA 2025 consists of three main activities to promote connections between students and professionals in the field of art. First, the Media Art Contest is held online for students from universities around the world.

The competition consists of four main categories: Short Film (10-30 minutes), Animation Art (3-10 minutes), Interactive Art (1-10 minutes), and AI Narrative (1-4 minutes). The deadline for submissions is June 30. Each category emphasizes the application of advanced technology to express new artistic ideas.

Second, the 72-Hour Workshop is a hands-on activity taking place in Ho Chi Minh City, in which students are divided into 20 teams to participate in a 72-hour filmmaking competition. The teams will make films with themes revolving around "People - Rivers - Environment".

Finally, there is an academic forum for experts in the field of designeducation (Academic Forum) to discuss future media trends.

Dr. Vo Van Tuan, Vice President of Van Lang University, said: "ISMA 2025 has the theme 'Future Media: People - River - Environment' to encourage students to explore the connections between people, nature and society. ISMA 2025 Film Festival held in Vietnam will create conditions for lecturers and students to improve the quality of training in the field of art and digital media".

According to Dr. Tuan, university students can submit their works to the competition, compare their skills with international friends and access the latest technology trends. In addition, the 72-hour city experience is an opportunity for students to learn, develop skills, promote networking and knowledge exchange between students, experts and researchers in the industry.

The ISMA International Student Film Festival was established in Qingdao, China in 2017, then held in Guiyang, China (2018); Shanghai - Malaysia (2019); Middle Tennessee State University, USA (2023); Kookmin University, Korea (2024) and the 6th time held at Van Lang University (2025).
