An atmosphere of joy filled the entire Roon Border Post, Quang Binh Provincial Border Guard when hearing the news that Nguyen Anh Vu, the first adopted child, was admitted to the Border Guard Academy.

Nguyen Anh Vu (born in 2006) was born into a family with extremely difficult circumstances in Quang Phu commune (Quang Trach, Quang Binh). His parents divorced, and since childhood, Vu had to depend on his elderly and sick grandmother. All the economic burdens fell on his grandmother's shoulders, and Vu was at risk of dropping out of school many times. Understanding the circumstances of Vu and his family, when he was in 8th grade (2019), he was adopted by Roon Border Guard Station under the model of "Adopted child of the Border Guard Station".

Vu's life turned a new page with the journey of a "child soldier" living and studying at Roon Border Post. During Vu's time at the unit, the unit's Party Committee and commander arranged and ensured the best conditions for eating, resting and studying. The border guards acted as both fathers and teachers, always taking care of and guiding Vu in his studies, while sharing and encouraging him to ease his homesickness and have more joy and motivation to excel in his studies.

Major Nguyen Son Binh, Political Commissar of Roon Border Post, shared: “We cannot forget the image of the little boy Vu 5 years ago when he first joined the unit, weighing only about 28kg. When he first arrived, Vu was skinny, often sick and had toothaches, so the unit had to send a military doctor to take special care of him. In just about a year, Vu had gained 12kg. After 5 years of living and studying at Roon Border Post, Vu gradually became more mature. He strictly followed all the hours and regulations of the unit, except for his nighttime sleeping hours, which were flexible so he could study. Living with the border guards, Vu developed both physically and mentally."

The love of the green-uniformed soldiers helped Vu no longer feel self-conscious and inferior about his family's circumstances. From a shy, timid boy, he has become more and more mature, actively participating in cultural and artistic activities of the school and locality. Not only that, he always strives to study hard, achieving the title of excellent student for many consecutive years. Closing the 12-year journey of studying, Nguyen Anh Vu entered the high school graduation exam in 2024. In the final days, the whole unit took care of Vu more. The officers took turns directly participating in tutoring, instructing Vu on how to review for the exam, and reminding him not to stay up late to ensure his health. Not disappointing the expectations of his adoptive fathers, after the exam, Vu scored 25.43 points and was admitted to the Border Guard Academy. Nguyen Anh Vu said: “I am very cared for and looked after by the soldiers, this is the biggest motivation to help me nurture my dream of becoming a soldier. I will try to study, practice, and equip myself with more knowledge and skills to become a border soldier to contribute to and protect the Fatherland.”
