Lam Dong police arrested a fraudster who appropriated 6 cars.

On September 5, the Investigation Police Agency (IPA) of Lam Dong Province Police announced that it had just arrested Tran Van Hai (born in 1990), residing in Bac Gia Nghia Ward, Lam Dong Province, to investigate the act of appropriating 6 cars from people with a total value of nearly 5 billion VND.

Previously, on August 22, 2025, the Office of the Investigation Police Agency of Lam Dong Province Police received a complaint from Mr. Tran Anh D (residing in Duc Lap commune, Lam Dong province) accusing Tran Van Hai of fraud and appropriation of property through the form of renting a self-driving car, forging documents and then pawning the car.

Immediately after receiving the denunciation, the Investigation Police Agency promptly established a working group, organized verification, collected evidence and urgently arrested Tran Van Hai to serve the investigation.

At the investigation agency, Hai confessed that because he needed money for gambling, debt repayment and personal expenses, he came up with the idea of ​​renting a self-driving car, forging the car registration and power of attorney, and then pawning it.

Expanding the investigation, it was initially determined that Tran Van Hai had rented 6 self-driving cars from 6 people with a total value of nearly 5 billion VND in Lam Dong, Dong Nai provinces and Ho Chi Minh City. Afterwards, Hai forged documents to pawn them for 3.55 billion VND, using all of them for gambling and personal expenses.

On August 29, 2025, the Office of the Investigation Police Agency of Lam Dong Province issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused and issue a detention order against Tran Van Hai to investigate the crimes of "Fraudulent appropriation of property" and "Using fake documents of agencies and organizations".

The case is currently under investigation and expansion. The Investigation Police Agency requests that individuals and organizations who are victims of Tran Van Hai proactively report to receive guidance and resolution according to the law.

Through this case, Lam Dong Provincial Police advise people to be vigilant and cautious when renting or mortgaging assets, especially cars. When detecting unusual behavior or signs of forged documents, it is necessary to promptly report to the nearest police agency for handling according to regulations.
