At the conference, Mr. Tran Dinh Luan, Director of the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , announced the Prime Minister's decision on approving the Planning of the system of fishing ports and storm shelters for fishing vessels for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050; the draft plan to implement the planning of the system of fishing ports and storm shelters for fishing vessels for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

Accordingly, by 2030, investment will be made in 5 large fishing centers synchronized in the system of fishing ports, storm shelters for fishing vessels, infrastructure and aquatic logistics services in coastal areas. Priority fishing port projects include 16 type I fishing ports, 7 type II fishing ports; priority fishing boat storm shelter projects include 12 regional projects and 7 provincial and municipal projects.

In the period of 2021 - 2030, prioritize investment in building infrastructure and essential logistics services for type I fishing ports, with priority given to fishing ports in major fishing centers; regional storm shelters for fishing vessels; fishing ports and storm shelters for fishing vessels on islands; type II fishing ports combined with storm shelters for fishing vessels or under construction, at the same time, playing the role of main ports serving the fight against IUU fishing in the locality; fishing port and storm shelter projects for fishing vessels attracting non-budgetary investment capital.

By 2030, the country will have 173 fishing ports, including: 39 first-class fishing ports, 80 second-class fishing ports, 54 third-class fishing ports, meeting the loading and unloading of a total volume of aquatic products through the ports of about 2.983 million tons/year. At the same time, there will be 160 storm shelters for fishing vessels to meet the anchoring needs of about 90,600 fishing vessels.

On the mainland, there are 141 fishing ports that handle a total of about 2.75 million tons of seafood per year and 125 storm shelters that handle the anchoring needs of about 73,940 fishing vessels. On the islands, there are 32 fishing ports that handle a total of about 233,000 tons of seafood per year and 35 storm shelters that handle the anchoring needs of about 16,660 fishing vessels.

By 2050, the country is planned to have 180 fishing ports, including 39 first-class fishing ports, 87 second-class fishing ports, and 54 third-class fishing ports, meeting the loading and unloading of a total volume of aquatic products through the port of about 3 million tons/year and 160 storm shelters for fishing vessels, meeting the anchoring needs of about 90,600 fishing vessels.

By 2050, the synchronous fishing port system from infrastructure to logistics services will be completed in the direction of industrialization and modernization based on upgrading and expanding existing fishing ports, focusing on fishing logistics services, automation, ensuring food safety and hygiene requirements. Regional storm shelters will be built to accommodate fishing vessels in the event of super storms....

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that up to now, 92/125 fishing ports nationwide have been invested and upgraded; of which, only 76 fishing ports in 26 provinces and cities have been announced to open according to the Fisheries Law. The planning of the fishing port system and storm shelters for fishing vessels in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, will serve as the basis for developing and approving specialized technical plans to meet development requirements, create motivation to attract investment, and promote the development of socio-economic sectors.
