Preparing for a trip during the Lunar New Year of 2026, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, from Duc Xuan ward, Thai Nguyen province, shared: "During holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), booking hotel rooms and choosing places to eat and have fun is often very difficult. Therefore, before each trip, I proactively search for information on the Internet, from booking rooms and choosing destinations to booking tickets for sightseeing and entertainment; everything can be done online, quickly and conveniently."
With the rapid development of digital technology , the way tourists experience travel has changed significantly. Previously, finding information was time-consuming and relied on phone calls or direct inquiries; now, all the necessary data is conveniently stored on a smartphone.
Tourists can easily search for destination information, book services through apps, make electronic payments, and share their experiences instantly on social media. In this context, digital transformation has become an essential requirement if one does not want to fall behind in the increasingly fierce competition of the tourism market.

In many community-based tourism destinations, from the Ba Be Lake region to the Tan Cuong tea-growing area, farmers involved in tourism are gradually becoming familiar with and mastering technology.
Mr. Nong Nguyen Chi, owner of an accommodation facility in Ba Be Tourist Area, Ba Be commune, said: "Thanks to promotion on social media, Chi Hoa Homestay has become more well-known to tourists and has connected with customers in many localities. The feedback and reviews from tourists on digital platforms also help us to promptly adjust services and improve service quality."
From a tourist's perspective, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Van from Hanoi shared: "After seeing reviews and introductions on Facebook and TikTok, I decided to choose Ba Be Lake and Nui Coc Lake for my trip. With just a smartphone, I can experience virtual reality tours, book accommodations, and pay online. Digital tourism offers a very convenient and transparent experience, giving tourists more peace of mind when choosing services."
The Fourth Industrial Revolution has opened up great opportunities for the application of information technology, big data, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence in destination management, promotion, and tourism product business.
Recognizing this trend, Thai Nguyen has proactively implemented solutions to build and operate smart tourism, making its mark in promotion and advertising on digital platforms.

Since 2019, the province has implemented the "Smart Tourism Solution of Thai Nguyen Province" with the website mythainguyen.vn and the mobile application Thai Nguyen Tourism, connecting with the national smart tourism system and integrating centralized data on a cloud computing platform.
Simultaneously, survey activities and Famtrips were intensified, creating favorable conditions for travel businesses inside and outside the province to develop unique tours and routes based on the local area's strong tourism products.
Creating a smart tourism ecosystem.
On December 10, 2025, the Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee issued Project No. 17/DA-TU on tourism development in the province for the period 2026-2030.
Among the breakthrough solutions, digital transformation is identified as a key direction, aiming to develop smart tourism and green tourism, enhance connectivity, and better meet the information and service needs of tourists; while simultaneously building a smart tourism ecosystem linked to service infrastructure and the application of green and clean technologies in tourism business operations.

Data is identified as the foundation of smart tourism. Accordingly, Thai Nguyen strives to complete the digitization of 100% of its tourism data by 2030. The scope of digitization is not limited to tourist areas, attractions, or historical sites, but extends to the entire service ecosystem, including tour guides, travel agencies, accommodation establishments, restaurants, eateries, and entertainment venues.
Data synchronization will create a centralized information repository, effectively supporting the management, promotion, and service of tourists.
During the period 2026-2030, the province plans to mobilize financial resources to implement key projects on digital transformation in tourism. These include: digitizing tourist areas and attractions and a province-wide tourism database with a budget of 15 billion VND; developing mobile applications to serve tourists, providing online tourism products and installing camera systems at tourist areas and attractions with a total budget of 10 billion VND; and building a toolkit for identifying and promoting the Thai Nguyen tourism brand, with a budget of 5 billion VND.
In addition, the province will continue to effectively implement the Smart Tourism Development Project in the coming period, focusing on building the Thai Nguyen electronic tourism portal to serve state management, business operations of enterprises, and the needs of tourists for information and experiences.
The application of digital technology in destination management and promotion, and the creation of digitized tourism maps, is expected to enhance the experience and affirm Thai Nguyen's position as the "Tea Culture Community Tourism Capital of Vietnam".

By leveraging technology to create new value, Thai Nguyen aims to bring its local tourism identity beyond spatial and linguistic barriers, gradually asserting its position on the global digital tourism map.

The strategy of "Two key priorities, one driving force, one foundation" is identified as a crucial lever for Thai Nguyen to develop tourism into a leading economic sector and enhance its competitiveness in the integration period.
Lake Nui Coc and Lake Ba Be have been selected as two key tourist areas, playing a central role in attracting investment, developing products, and spreading growth momentum. The driving force is a system of tourism products linked to tangible and intangible heritage, historical and cultural relics in the area.
Based on that foundation, the province focuses on developing community-based tourism, ecotourism, cultural tourism, and environmental tourism in a way that is both expansive and in-depth.
In particular, digital transformation and the development of smart and green tourism are expected to create breakthroughs, supporting the connection of information and services and enhancing the quality of the tourist experience.

Following this direction, Thai Nguyen province identifies digital transformation as a continuous task. Besides digitizing data, the province focuses on applying artificial intelligence, virtual tourism assistants, and advanced technologies in tourism promotion and marketing. Simultaneously, it continues to effectively implement the Smart Tourism Development Project for the period 2026-2030, build a provincial e-tourism portal, and ensure transparency in administrative procedures, policies, and priority projects to attract tourism investment.
With a systematic and synchronized approach, digital transformation of tourism in Thai Nguyen not only aims to build a smart tourism ecosystem but also contributes to enhancing the experience and creating sustainable appeal.
When technology is applied in the right way, Thai Nguyen's tourism industry will have more momentum to break through, gradually realizing its aspiration to become a major tourism center in the Viet Bac region.
