Quang Nam Electricity Company aims to meet electricity demand during hot season

(QNO) - The hot weather in 2025 is happening. According to the meteorological agency, the peak of the hot weather in the Central region will fall around July and August 2025. Quang Nam Electricity Company has proactively planned and prepared scenarios to ensure power supply during the hot season in 2025.

Implementing the national program on electricity demand management (DSM), PC Quang Nam has worked with major customers to forecast electricity load demand, and together agreed to come up with appropriate adjustment solutions that do not affect the production and business activities of enterprises, while ensuring the effectiveness of reducing peak load capacity of the power system during peak hours, contributing to reducing overload on the power grid system.

Through the mobilization of PC Quang Nam, 134 production and service customers with an output of over 1 million kWh/year in Quang Nam province have signed an agreement to participate in the non-commercial voluntary load adjustment program (DR) with the highest potential for power reduction of 39.36 MW. DR is one of the important solutions to implement the DSM program. And 119 industrial customers with an electricity output of over 1 million kWh/year have signed an agreement to shift the load, reducing part of the power consumption from peak hours to off-peak hours from April to July as well as arranging to shift part of the production plan in peak months to the remaining months of the year. The company also made a list of customers with backup generators to mobilize on-site power sources in case of power shortages.

The company continues to closely coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Nam and other localities to promote the dissemination of rational, economical, safe and effective use of electricity during the hot season to businesses, agencies, schools and people. Rational and economical use of electricity helps to prevent high electricity costs; at the same time, avoid overloading and causing local electrical fires and explosions in homes, agencies, organizations and areas.

With the promulgation of Decree No. 135/2024/ND-CP dated October 22, 2024 of the Government stipulating "Mechanisms and policies to encourage the development of self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power", by mid-June 2025, in Quang Nam province, many businesses and households had installed self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power projects with a total capacity of about 16MW. This helps organizations and households not only save electricity costs, contribute to environmental protection but also contribute to reducing electricity consumption from the national grid.

Along with the above activities, PC Quang Nam proactively implemented specific programs and activities such as: investment in construction and upgrading of the power grid with a total capital of more than 269.6 billion VND; periodic inspection and testing, load sharing, conversion, and new transformer station installation were completed early. The company strengthened the repair of the energized grid (hotline); proactively inspected and handled defects on the grid; actively handled trees affecting the safety of the line corridor... to reduce incidents and reduce the time of interruption of power supply to customers.

In the first 5 months of 2025, electricity consumption in Quang Nam increased by 1.92% over the same period in 2024. Of which, electricity consumption of industrial production and commercial service customers increased by 5.25%.

PC Quang Nam set a target of saving at least 2% of total electricity consumption by 2025. Recently, the company has effectively implemented the program to respond to the Earth Hour 2025 campaign; organized the signing of electricity saving commitments with 34,548 customers, the committed saving output was more than 33.5 million kWh. In 5 months, the entire company saved more than 29.8 million kWh, equal to 2.63% compared to commercial electricity.
