87-year-old man sells lottery tickets and raises 900,000 VND to rescue starlings

Recently, a clip appeared on social media recording an old man selling lottery tickets spending 900,000 VND to release starlings, touching netizens.

According to the owner of the clip, Mr. Van Quang (living in Binh Duong province), the incident happened a few weeks ago, at Quang Vinh 1 market (Tan Uyen city, Binh Duong province).

Mr. Quang is a pork trader at the market. In the morning, when he opened his shop, he saw an old man selling lottery tickets holding a wad of change, approaching a woman with a cage of starlings for sale, asking her to set the birds free.

At first, the woman seemed half-believing, half-doubting, but when she saw the old man trying to convince her, she agreed to release all the birds in the cage for 900,000 VND.

Many curious vendors and customers who went to the market that day approached and asked the old man questions.

"The old man often sells lottery tickets around the market, his circumstances are not very good. He is 87 years old this year but still has to earn a living day and night. The amount of 900,000 VND is not a lot for some people, but for the old man it is a fortune, he has to sell for many days to get it. I supported him with a few hundred thousand VND, but surprisingly he refused, did not accept it and only took the exact amount of lottery tickets I bought," said Mr. Quang.

The clip posted on social media attracted nearly 1 million views and hundreds of thousands of interactions. Many people expressed admiration for the old man's actions.
