Mr. Hoang Van Moc (standing in the middle) , in Tan Thinh residential group, Tan Huong ward (Pho Yen city), donated 70 million VND to support the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thinh, in Dai Phong residential group, Ba Hang ward, to build a new house. |
We met Mr. Moc in a simple level 4 house, he shared: Born into a farming family with many children, I understand the hardships of not having enough food to eat, not enough clothes to wear, and a dilapidated house. Therefore, I always kept in mind that when life was a little better, I would do something meaningful to help the poor. However, when I got married, the daily grind kept me from fulfilling that wish. It was only when my 7 children were grown up and settled down that I began to accumulate and save money to do charity work.
From the pension of a forestry officer, every month, after covering living expenses, Mr. Moc puts 300-500 thousand VND into a savings account. Like that, after many years, he has saved 70 million VND. In early May, through the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Pho Yen City, he learned about the family situation of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thinh, in Dai Phong residential group, Ba Hang ward, a near-poor household with especially difficult circumstances. Although she is past working age, Mrs. Thinh still has to work hard to raise 2 sick children who are unable to work and 2 young grandchildren, while the house is small, seriously degraded and there are no conditions to build or repair. Therefore, he decided to spend all his savings to support Mrs. Thinh to build a new, more spacious house.
Holding the money that Mr. Hoang Van Moc had just given her, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thinh was moved: “My family is extremely grateful and appreciative of Mr. Moc’s kindness. With this money, Mr. Moc could have saved it for his old age, in case of illness or left it to his children and grandchildren, but he did not hesitate to give it to a stranger like me. This amount of money is truly meaningful, helping my mother and I have more funds to build a more solid shelter from the sun and rain.
Sharing about his meaningful work, Mr. Hoang Van Cong, Mr. Moc's son, said: My father believes that "as long as you have strength, you can contribute. I'm old but not useless", so the money he saves will be used to help people in more difficult circumstances than himself. This has also been his wish for many years, so the family always encourages and takes care of him so that he can always live happily and healthily every day. In the past, my father's health was somewhat weak, afraid that he could not directly carry out this work, he carefully rewrote his will, authorizing his children and grandchildren. Up to now, my father's wish has come true, the family is very happy, excited, and proud.
Mr. Hoang Van Moc, in Tan Thinh residential group, Tan Huong ward (Pho Yen city), shared with reporters about the 50-year Party membership badge he was awarded. |
Through research, we learned that, in addition to saving money to help poor households with housing, for many years, Mr. Hoang Van Moc has also regularly supported the local scholarship and talent promotion fund. Although he does not have a large income, every year, he still deducts a portion of his pension from 500,000 to 1 million VND to contribute to the fund, to help poor students overcome difficulties and study well. Although the gifts are small, but full of love, Mr. Moc has helped dozens of poor students gain more confidence and motivation to excel in their studies.
According to Mr. Bui Huy Phuc, Chairman of Tan Huong Ward People's Committee: Mr. Hoang Van Moc is a person with a simple lifestyle, an exemplary party member. For many years, he has been a typical example in patriotic emulation movements launched by the locality. From environmental sanitation activities, new rural construction, to the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life", he has enthusiastically participated, propagated, and mobilized his children and grandchildren to respond positively. With such meaningful actions, he is not only a shining example of morality and lifestyle, but also contributes to spreading the spirit of solidarity and affection in the community, which needs to be spread and replicated.
In a conversation with us, Mr. Moc gently shared, “I have lived enough, now I just hope to contribute a little more to help others suffer less.” In the midst of the hustle and bustle of modern life, the story of the 93-year-old man in Tan Huong ward who still lives a kind life and shares wholeheartedly is like a warm, quiet note that resonates in the harmony of life. It is a sincere reminder that human love and kindness always have a deeper impact than anything else.
