On January 20, US President Donald Trump revoked his predecessor Joe Biden's decision to remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
This is one of Donald Trump's first executive orders, signed just hours after taking office. The new US President also announced the revocation of 78 executive orders of the previous administration.
Cuba has expressed its opposition after the new US President reversed his predecessor's decision. On social network X, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said that Mr. Trump's decision was absurd and had no basis in reality.
President Diaz-Canel also emphasized that the economic blockade policy that Mr. Trump applied during his first term caused difficulties for the Cuban people, leading to a shortage of goods in this Caribbean country.
Previously, on January 14, just a few days before leaving office, then US President Joe Biden decided to remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
The international community welcomed and supported Biden’s decision before leaving office. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez said at the time that the move was a step in the “right direction,” but expressed concern about Washington’s continued embargo.
