A young man (16 years old, residing in Hanoi) was admitted to the hospital with an open chest wound located next to his left nipple. Doctors determined that the victim had been stabbed through the heart.
On December 8, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Lien, Head of the Department of Urology and Andrology, E Hospital ( Hanoi ) said that during the night shift on December 7, the hospital received a phone call from the 115 Emergency Center and Me Linh District General Hospital (Hanoi) about a case of a 16-year-old male youth with an open chest injury next to the left nipple. The injury was caused by a sharp object and could be life-threatening.

Immediately, the emergency doctors "pressed the red alarm button" to mobilize all forces to rescue the patient.
The patient was admitted to the emergency room with pale skin and mucous membranes due to massive blood loss and was on a ventilator via an endotracheal tube, with a rapid pulse and low blood pressure. There was a 3cm wide wound on the chest below the left nipple, caused by a sharp object. Doctors clinically examined the patient and found that the heart sounds were faint and the alveolar murmur in the left lung was gone.
The patient was in critical condition, the hospital's Board of Directors planned an emergency surgery, and the operating room was immediately lit up.
According to Master, Doctor Nguyen Hoang Nam - Deputy Head of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Department, Cardiovascular Center, E Hospital, emergency cases of chest injuries, especially complex heart injuries, require quick and accurate treatment. Doctors did not wait for test results and rushed straight to the operating room to perform surgery.
After more than 2 hours of emergency surgery, the doctor drained about 2,500 ml of blood. Pericardial examination determined a 2cm perforation of the pericardium and blood clots. The patient was continuously transfused with 7 units of blood (equivalent to the amount of blood lost).
After 12 hours, the patient's hemorrhagic shock condition stabilized and he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for treatment. Here, the young man was conscious and responsive, breathing oxygen on his own, and was expected to be discharged in the next few days.
