“Making friends with books with your children” is over 160 pages thick, published by Dan Tri Publishing House. This book was compiled by author Hoang Trong Thuy, Chief Representative of Zhi Shan Foundation Taiwan, founder of the “Making friends with books” project based on his experience after more than 15 years of developing a reading program in the Central region. The book shares how to set up a family reading environment; how to choose books suitable for children’s age and interests; how to nurture children’s emotions, language development and literacy skills; interactive activities to help parents and children explore the world of books, as well as share real stories about building a reading culture…

Author Hoang Trong Thuy believes that reading is an activity that looks very simple, but without strategies and methods, it will be very difficult to maintain and will not achieve the expected results. The accompanying role of family and school in the journey of leading children to become friends with books is very important. With appropriate methods such as turning reading into joy, choosing books according to children's interests and setting an example for children, parents can sow the seeds of love for books in children's souls, helping children grow up with a rich source of knowledge and a spirit of lifelong learning.

According to the author, to form a long-term reading habit, parents need to set a fixed reading time during the day, for example 15 - 20 minutes before bedtime. This helps children consider reading as a natural part of their daily lives. A comfortable, colorful reading space will stimulate children's interest in reading. For example, a bookshelf designed in the shape of a tree or cartoon character will stimulate children's curiosity. The reading space should not be too neat and tidy, books can be placed anywhere for children's convenience. Seeing books everywhere will stimulate children's interest in reading.

For children, parents are important role models. When children see their parents reading regularly, spending time reading with them or reading a book with them, they will naturally imitate and form this habit. In addition, every time a child finishes reading a book or shows a love for reading, parents should praise and encourage them to feel proud. When reading with their children, parents need to have some interactions to create interest, focus and encourage children to actively participate in the story, making reading not only lively but also bringing many benefits, such as training concentration and attention.

Mr. Hoang Trong Thuy emphasized: “For children, the important thing is to guide, accompany, encourage, reward, even require, condition and have continuous supervision and implementation over a long period of time, then maybe a habit can be formed. When overcoming the “threshold” of compulsion, moving from passive to active reading with interest, children will read passionately”.

The book “Making friends with books with your children” has been widely introduced and highly appreciated by schools, teachers and parents for its meaning and effective methods. Ms. Phan Thi Hong, librarian at Phu Ho Secondary School (Phu Vang) shared: “Making friends with books with your children” by author Hoang Trong Thuy has contributed to changing the interests of children today. I hope this book will be available in all school library systems and the school will organize an introduction of this book so that parents and students have the opportunity to access and practice the author’s passion.
