“The Wild Book” comes to Vietnam for the first time

“The Wild Book” by veteran writer Juan Villoro is a famous Mexican literary work written in Spanish with nearly 2 million copies sold locally and translated into many languages. For the first time, it will be available in Vietnam through the translation of translator Le Manh Thang.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Mexico, Nha Nam, together with the Mexican Embassy in Vietnam and the Spanish Department - Hanoi University, organized the launch of the Vietnamese translation of the work "The Wild Book" by author Juan Villoro through the translation of translator Le Manh Thang.

“The Wild Book” is a literary work for children and teenagers that has achieved great success around the world . The book has sold nearly 2 million copies in Mexico, has been translated into many languages, has been converted into Braille for the visually impaired and is in the process of being adapted into a film.

“The Wild Book” tells the story of 13-year-old Juan facing a terrible summer: he often has scary nightmares, his parents are divorced, his mother smokes and drinks all day, his father has gone to faraway Paris and worse, this summer vacation he will have to temporarily leave his familiar home and friends to live at Uncle Tito's house - an eccentric old uncle who lives alone, in a house full of books.

But here, the boy begins a magical adventure with books. Especially, when Juan learns about the existence of a book that has never been read, never been written, and never been published called "The Wild Book". The unexpected adventure of the boy with Uncle Tito and his little friends not only helps Juan find a precious book, but also discovers many wonderful things about books and life.

During his career, writer Juan Villoro published nearly 50 works in various genres. He was honored to receive 16 of Spain's most prestigious literary awards, including the Herralde Prize in 2004 and the Spanish King's International Press Prize in 2010, and the IBBY (International Board of Books for Young People) Prize in 1994. Among Juan Villoro's extensive works for children and young adults, "The Wild Book" leaves a special impression on readers.

Author Juan Villoro expressed his happiness through his Vietnamese publishing partner when his work was published in Vietnam. According to him: “The Wild Book” is a tribute to reading. I am lucky that this work has been translated into many languages, including Braille for the visually impaired. Now, I am extremely happy to have this journey to Vietnam. Since I was a child, I have known about the glorious history of this great country and always dreamed of having the opportunity to set foot here.”
