Over the years, the Veterans Association at all levels in Ha Long City has always been exemplary in leading the emulation movement, building a strong association organization that has created a strong influence, contributing to the development of the local economy and society.
Chairman of the Association of War Veterans of Ha Long City Le Minh Tuyen said: Every year, the association builds a plan to grasp the ideological situation of cadres and members; guides and supports the grassroots in implementing activities, discovering typical examples, good and effective models in learning and following Uncle Ho in conjunction with emulation movements; at the same time, mobilizing cadres and members of the Association of War Veterans to compete in creative labor such as: The movement "bright roads, bright alleys, traffic safety"; activities of self-managed security and order groups in residential areas with war veterans as the core; the movement of skillful mass mobilization; the movement to build new rural areas, civilized urban areas...
A typical example is the movement "War veterans compete in good production and business, unite to help each other get rich and reduce poverty sustainably" which has achieved important results. To implement this movement, the War Veterans Association of Ha Long City has supported and helped War Veterans members borrow preferential loans through the Bank for Social Policies to develop production and business. Currently, in Ha Long City, there are 51 loan groups managed by the War Veterans Association with a total outstanding debt of over 83 billion VND; maintaining fund 3 to help members in difficult circumstances borrow interest-free or low-interest loans for production and business with an amount of over 3.2 billion VND. At the same time, propagandizing and mobilizing members to convert crop and livestock varieties for high productivity, quality and economic efficiency...
Through the emulation movement, many typical examples of good production and business have emerged. For example, CCB Vu Minh Thuong, Director of Toan Phu Agricultural and Forestry Production and Service Cooperative (Son Duong commune) with a model of growing fruit trees combined with eco-tourism. CCB Vu Minh Thuong, said: From the application of science and technology, growing guava and green-skinned grapefruit according to VietGAP standards brings high economic efficiency. To increase economic efficiency, in 2023, the Cooperative has cooperated with members who are CCB to plan to expand the area of fruit trees in different areas, helping tourists to experience and enjoy agricultural products. With this approach, the total revenue of the Cooperative reaches over 11 billion VND/year. This is a sustainable direction that brings economic efficiency and enrichment on the homeland.
In addition to veteran Vu Minh Thuong, there are also other veteran members who are good at business and production such as: Veteran Pham Van Dong, Director of Dong Hang Trading Joint Stock Company (Gieng Day Ward, Ha Long City) specializes in trading construction materials, creating stable jobs and income for 50 employees; each year the company achieves a revenue of over 50 billion VND, fulfilling its tax obligations to the state; actively participating in charity work. Veteran Phan Luong Quyen (Le Loi Commune, Ha Long City) invested in planting 45 hectares of forest, including 20 hectares of large trees. Not only that, he also took advantage of the forest canopy to raise a flock of over 700 chickens, with an annual income of over 600 million VND/year.
Developing household economy, farm economy, and family farms; promoting the application of technical and technological advances in production and business to achieve high economic efficiency. Many War Veterans Association members in Ha Long City are recognized as good at production and business (14 members at the central level; 45 members at the provincial level; 106 members at the city level).
According to the statistics of the Association of War Veterans in Ha Long City, currently in the city there are 26 enterprises owned by War Veterans members, attracting nearly 900 workers every year, 7 cooperatives with over 500 workers, 14 farms, 115 households with 1,000 workers, 459 members doing service business... attracting and creating jobs for nearly 2,000 workers, including hundreds of workers who are children of War Veterans members. Up to now, the City Association of War Veterans has no poor or near-poor member families; 72% of member families have a good and rich standard of living.
It can be affirmed that many production and business models of war veterans in Ha Long city have brought practical results in improving the material and spiritual life of members, contributing to the successful implementation of poverty reduction programs, socio-economic development, new rural construction, and civilized urban areas in the locality.
