On the night of August 5, the Van Don Special Zone Medical Center (Quang Ninh) received an urgent report from the Thang Loi Commune Health Station about a pregnant woman, BTA (29 years old), who was in labor, had severe abdominal pain, and was suspected of having an abnormal fetal position. The pregnant woman was pregnant for the first time, 37 weeks and 2 days pregnant, with a high risk of difficult labor and could not give birth normally at the commune level.
Immediately, Mr. Pham Quoc Viet, Head of the Administrative Organization Department, arranged a specialized rescue boat with full emergency equipment to ensure safety, ready to cross the sea to the island to pick up patients in dangerous weather conditions.

The Medical Center immediately activated the "red alert" procedure for emergency treatment outside the hospital, mobilizing a team of 4 members.
At exactly 11:00 p.m., the specialized boat left the mainland despite dangerous weather conditions with heavy rain, continuous thunder and lightning, high waves and strong winds of level 6-7. The nearly 40km journey to Thang Loi Island took place in unprecedentedly harsh conditions.
At nearly 1am on August 6, the rescue boat safely reached the island. Immediately, the team coordinated with Thang Loi Medical Station to conduct a quick examination. The pregnant woman was diagnosed with a high head position and narrow pelvis, and was unlikely to give birth naturally and needed an emergency cesarean section.
In the middle of a stormy night, transporting the mother to the mainland was a big challenge, but in the face of the critical situation, the emergency team decided to take the mother back to the center by boat. At the same time, emergency interventions were performed along the way such as intravenous fluids, anti-spasmodics, and close monitoring of the mother and fetus.

About 30 minutes later, the mother was safely taken to the Medical Center. That same night, the emergency cesarean section was performed successfully. A pink, crying baby girl weighing 2.4 kg was born. Currently, both mother and baby are in stable health.
“In the middle of the night, in the rain and wind, every decision had to take into account the safety of both mother and child, as well as the entire crew. But with all our experience, sense of responsibility and smooth coordination, we did it.
The joy of a healthy baby crying when it is born is the greatest reward for the team," said Dr. Bui Thanh Tuan, Head of the Department of Reproductive Health Care and Obstetrics, Van Don Special Zone Medical Center.
