Accordingly, pregnant woman MTM (33 years old, residing in Cam Vu village, Hieu Giang commune, Quang Tri) was 35 weeks pregnant and was diagnosed with placenta accreta, the most dangerous obstetric complication that can cause massive bleeding, threatening the lives of both mother and baby.
To ensure the safety of both mother and child, Ms. M. was scheduled for an active cesarean section. After 1 hour of surgery, the doctors successfully saved the lives of both mother and child.
According to Dr. Tran Dinh Luc, Deputy Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Quang Tri General Hospital, placenta accreta is a condition in which part or all of the placenta invades and does not separate from the uterine wall after childbirth.
"Normally, the placenta will detach from the uterine wall after the mother gives birth. The placenta is then expelled outside. However, when a pregnant woman has placenta accreta, the placenta cannot detach from the uterine wall but adheres tightly to the uterine muscles, even invading neighboring organs. This is the cause of postpartum hemorrhage, postoperative infection... even death in pregnant women," Dr. Luc shared.
Currently, Ms. M. and her child are being monitored and cared for by doctors.
