At 0:10 a.m. on October 15, EC-225 helicopter with registration number VN-8618 of the 18th Army Corps landed on the parking lot on the roof of the Orthopedic Institute building, Military Hospital 175 , Ho Chi Minh City, safely transporting a patient with acute myocardial infarction from Thuyen Chai Island (Truong Sa special zone, Khanh Hoa province) to the mainland for treatment.
Previously, at 8:30 a.m. on October 14, Mr. B.D.D (born in 1969, from Ninh Binh province) experienced dull, increasing chest pain behind the sternum and was taken to Thuyen Chai Island Infirmary.
At the time of admission, Mr. D was conscious, had chest pain, difficulty breathing, and was sweating. Mr. D had a history of type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure and was taking regular medication.
Doctors and nurses at Thuyen Chai Island Clinic quickly stabilized the patient and connected to an emergency telemedicine consultation with Military Hospital 175. The online consultation results determined that the patient had a 4-hour acute myocardial infarction, accompanied by high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, with a very serious prognosis, at risk of arrhythmia, cardiogenic shock and sudden death, requiring emergency transport to the mainland for treatment.
Complying with the order of the Ministry of National Defense , the 18th Army Corps mobilized the EC-225 helicopter crew with registration number VN-8618, captained by Lieutenant Colonel Do Hoang Hai, and the Air Rescue Team of Military Hospital 175, led by Major, Doctor Dinh Van Hong, to depart from Tan Son Nhat airport at 4:30 p.m. on October 14.
The Emergency Team carries full equipment for intensive cardiovascular resuscitation and a team of doctors experienced in emergency care for critically ill patients, especially with the participation of interventional cardiologists.
Major, Doctor Dinh Van Hong, Head of the Air Emergency Team - Military Hospital 175 said that at the time of approach, doctors assessed the patient to be at very high risk during transport such as arrhythmia, acute heart failure, cardiogenic shock, and even sudden death.
Doctors actively treated the patient on the spot to ensure the patient was stable and safe throughout the journey. “Despite the harsh night flight conditions, with close coordination between the flight crew and the medical team, the flight was completed in absolute safety, bringing the patient to Military Hospital 175 in time,” Dr. Hong shared.
Immediately after arriving at Military Hospital 175, the patient was transferred to the Emergency Department for intensive testing and intensive treatment to control the risk of cardiovascular complications. The patient had 2 coronary stents placed and his health is now gradually stabilizing.
