The Vietnamese women's volleyball team easily won the first two games, with scores of 25-17 and 25-20 respectively. However, Thanh Thuy and her teammates lost their momentum and lost the third game (20-25), before winning again in the fourth game (25-22).
After this somewhat difficult victory, Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet shared: “The North Korean team is always a team with very good spirit, so if we loosen up a little, we will lose the game. They are not a team with weak skills. Today, in the first two rounds, what the Vietnamese team did best was to break the opponent's first step, making their tactical spearheads run alone so we could block the ball. In the third round, when we loosened our serve, they started to have many tactical moves, making the Vietnamese athletes follow and become a bit exhausted. After 4 years, we have just met North Korea again in an official tournament. We do not have any information about the North Korean team. This time, the difficulty is that we do not have a cameraman to record and analyze. Fortunately, the team did well and won.”
Thanh Thuy (middle) and her teammates successfully solved the mystery of the Trieu Trieu team.
“Up to now, for the athletes participating in ASIAD 19, the least number of them have competed in their 12th tournament. But we can see that the athletes are in good physical condition. Like last year, physical condition was a difficult factor because the team had too short a time to concentrate. This year, we have a physical condition coach and have prepared carefully. Through 12 tournaments, the team has competed in many 5-game matches but their physical condition is still guaranteed,” coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet said about the physical condition of Vietnamese athletes.
Meanwhile, team captain Thanh Thuy is still not satisfied with herself: “In this match (victory over the North Korean team), I am not really satisfied with myself, but satisfied with the team's fighting spirit. The team had difficulties in game 3 but the whole team encouraged each other to reach the final victory.”
Thanh Thuy is still the main scorer of the Vietnamese women's team.
In the remaining match of Group E, the Chinese women's volleyball team easily won against the Korean team with a score of 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-16). Thus, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team and the Chinese team are the two representatives in Group E to participate in the semi-finals of the 19th ASIAD women's volleyball event. Therefore, the match between the Vietnamese women's volleyball team and the Chinese team tomorrow (October 5) is just a formality, to compete for the top spot in the group. With the level of the world's 6th ranked team, the top spot in Group E is unlikely to escape the hands of host China. Not long ago, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team also faced the Chinese team at the 2023 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship (in Thailand). Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates tried their best but still had to accept defeat with a score of 0-3 (13-25, 12-25, 22-25).
Therefore, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has no reason to go all out in the final match of the group stage. "When facing China, we must have a reasonable strategy. The team will not go all out in this match. If we go all out, it will be difficult to get a good result against China. Therefore, we will focus on the semi-final match against the other group winner," said coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet. And main striker Tran Thi Thanh Thuy said: "For me, every match is very important. We will try our best in each match, not only to achieve results but also to show ourselves."
According to coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will not exert all their strength in the final round of the group stage against the Chinese team.
The match between the Vietnamese and Chinese women's volleyball teams will take place at 6:00 p.m. (Vietnam time) on September 5.
