Asia - Europe war at the U21 women's volleyball world final

The two semi-finals that concluded on August 16 helped determine the two names that will compete for the 2025 FIFA Women's U21 Volleyball World Cup title.

In the first semi-final, the Italian women's volleyball team once again showed stability, dominating from the beginning of the tournament. Before the semi-final, they made the defending champion China lose quickly after only 3 sets in the quarter-finals.

Facing a powerful force like Brazil on the afternoon of August 16, Italy played as if they had no difficulty.

They were overwhelming and superior in every aspect. Italy's attackers brought home 45 points, while the defense also scored 12 points. Brazil looked like a weak team when entering this match. Not because they were not strong, but because the Italian U21 team was too classy.

The match ended quickly after only 3 sets, with Italy U21 winning (25-16, 25-21, 25-19).

In the other semi-final, U21 Japan also had an easy match against Bulgaria. They only needed 3 sets to win (25-17, 25-18, 25-13).

Thus, the two names that will face each other in the final of the U21 women's volleyball world this year are Italy and Japan.

This is the fourth consecutive time that Italy has qualified for the final of this tournament. In the previous three times, they won once in 2021. The remaining European representatives finished second in 2021 and 2023.

In addition, Italy also won the championship once in 2011. Surprisingly, this team has never won against Asian teams in the final. In 2019, they lost to Japan and had to finish second. That is also Japan's only U21 World Cup title to date.

In 2023, they lost to China. This year, that story could change as the European team is in “destructive” form. They have lost only one game so far, but that was in the final group stage defeat to Poland, which didn’t mean much.

Japan are also playing well, winning all their matches on the way to the final. However, Asian teams are often underestimated compared to opponents from Europe or South America.
