Hanoi University of Science and Technology responds to the practice of sticking school logo stamps on imported robots

At the 80th Anniversary of National Achievements Exhibition at the National Exhibition Center (Dong Anh, Hanoi) from August 28 to September 15, many visitors reported that in the area of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the two-legged robot on display had the school's logo on it, while this robot was said to be of foreign origin. Exhibition viewers said that the logo of the University of Science and Technology covered the logo and label of the manufacturer, which could cause confusion about the origin of the product.

Regarding this issue, on the afternoon of October 15, Hanoi University of Science and Technology said that the displayed bipedal robot had its mechanical parts legally imported from the Precision Mechanical Engineering Research Joint Stock Company, abbreviated as RPMEC, a business system affiliated with Hanoi University of Science and Technology, with the purpose of development, training, research and transfer.

On that basis, the research group led by lecturers of the University has developed new control algorithms, giving robots new features such as: improving stability when moving on complex terrain; increasing the ability to adapt to changing heights; developing algorithms to help robots climb curved stairs,...

“In training, the research team has developed software and professional documents to help lecturers and students directly program, integrate artificial intelligence and motion control. Information about bipedal robots was introduced at the exhibition area,” said Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Dang Chinh, Associate Professor, Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Regarding the paper stamps with the logo of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the leaders of Hanoi University of Science and Technology said that the robots are displayed in the area introducing the learning, practice and research and development conditions of lecturers and students. This area has the participation of many different agencies and training units. In the long-term exhibition conditions, the number of visitors is too large, many units mark the artifacts for management and preservation. The exhibition department of Hanoi University of Science and Technology uses paper stamps with the University's logo to stick on all artifacts, including the biped robot, for management and preservation.

“At that time, there was an error in pasting a paper stamp on the two-legged robot at the product logo position,” the school representative informed, adding that although there was a leaflet introducing the robot’s features at the exhibition area, the use of a paper stamp with the logo of Hanoi University of Science and Technology to mark for preservation had caused some visitors to misunderstand, which was unfortunate.

Regarding its responsibility, Hanoi University of Science and Technology said that upon receiving the feedback, the collective leadership of Hanoi University of Science and Technology immediately directed, reviewed, and requested relevant individuals and departments to seriously explain the feedback. Representatives of the research team and relevant departments have properly performed their responsibility to explain and provide complete information. Hanoi University of Science and Technology leadership has severely criticized the relevant departments for the above negligence.
