The only university in Vietnam with science and technology revenue of more than 500 billion VND

Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics has the largest revenue from science and technology transfer at 526.6 billion VND.

According to the latest announcement of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics , the revenue from research and technology transfer in 2023-2024 will reach 526.6 billion. This amount accounts for about 30% of the school's revenue.

In 2023-2024, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics will have a revenue of 1,721.4 billion VND. Of which, the revenue from the budget is 7.3 billion VND; from tuition fees is 1,068.8 billion VND, from scientific research and technology transfer is 526.6 billion VND; from other legal sources is 118.7 billion VND. Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics is in the group of 11 universities - universities with a revenue of thousands of billions in Vietnam.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics charges a tuition fee of 78.125 million VND/year (about 312.5 million VND/course) for doctoral degrees; 46.875 million VND/year (about 93.75 million VND/course) for master's degrees. For undergraduate degrees, the tuition fee for group III is 31.25 million VND/year; group V is 36.25 million VND/year; group VII is 30 million VND/year.

This university has published 3,456 scientific articles in ISI/Scopus journals. This is the leading university in international publications in the field of economics and management in Vietnam. Currently, there are 110 foreign scientists collaborating with the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City.

In terms of rankings, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics is in the top 136 best universities in Asia according to the Times Higher Education Rankings 2025; Top 1 in Business, Management and Accounting; Top 2 in Arts and Humanities, Economics, Econometrics and Finance; Top 3 in Social Sciences in Vietnam according to the SCImago Institutions Rankings 2025...

How much scientific revenue do other trillion dollar universities have?

Currently, in Vietnam, there are 11 universities with revenue of thousands of billions of VND, including 7 public universities: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, National Economics University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Ton Duc Thang University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

Four private schools with revenue of thousands of billions of VND include: FPT University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, and Van Lang University. The schools' revenue mainly comes from tuition fees and other sources; in which, revenue from scientific research and technology transfer is still quite modest.

For example, at Ton Duc Thang University, total revenue in 2023 is 1,157 billion VND, of which revenue from tuition fees accounts for 997.4 billion VND, revenue from scientific research, innovation, knowledge transfer and sponsorship is only 53.22 billion VND.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry has a revenue of 1,011.5 billion VND in 2023, of which 907.9 billion VND is from tuition fees and only 4.37 billion VND is from science and technology.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology has a revenue of 2,137 billion VND in 2023, of which the main source of revenue comes from tuition fees with 1,430 billion VND. Although it is the leading technical university in the country, the revenue from scientific research and technology transfer of Hanoi University of Science and Technology is only 18 billion VND.

The National Economics University's revenue in 2023 will reach over VND1,400 billion, of which more than VND1,014 billion will come from tuition fees. Revenue from scientific research and technology transfer will be VND42.95 billion.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology has a revenue of 1,003 billion VND in 2023, of which 672 billion VND is from tuition fees and only 44.4 billion VND is from scientific research and technology transfer.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology also has a revenue of 1,260 billion VND in 2023, of which 1,235 billion VND is from tuition fees. Revenue from scientific research and technology transfer is only 11 billion VND.

Nguyen Tat Thanh University's revenue in 2023 will reach 1,475 billion VND, of which 99% will be from tuition fees, which is 1,454 billion VND. Revenue from scientific research and technology transfer will be 11.77 billion VND.
