In this ranking, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) increased its position in the world's top 700 and for the first time the "level of influence" criterion entered the world's top 500.
In the February 2024 ranking, VNU continued to maintain its No. 1 position in Vietnam and increased its position in the world rankings (from 671st to 649th), and regional rankings (11th in Southeast Asia - up 1 place compared to the previous period and 140th in Asia - up 27 places compared to the previous period).

The top 10 Vietnamese universities in the Webometrics rankings in February 2024 include: Hanoi National University, Ton Duc Thang University (ranked 1054), Duy Tan University (ranked 1115), Nguyen Tat Thanh University (ranked 1189), Hanoi University of Science and Technology (ranked 1312), University of Science and Technology - Ho Chi Minh City National University (ranked 1550), Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (ranked 1712), Da Nang University (ranked 2057), Can Tho University (ranked 2068), Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry (ranked 2092).
Webometrics is an automatic ranking that evaluates the digital capacity and the level of dissemination and influence of academic resources of higher education institutions based on indicators of the level of dissemination and influence of the website system and online information (impact), the openness of academic resources (openness) on Google Scholar and the scientific citation index on the Scopus database system (excellence) of a higher education institution.
In this ranking period, Webometrics still maintains the same ranking method as in January 2021.
Specifically, the "Presence" criterion (quantity of digital resources) has been removed from the ranking method, the Visibility criterion has the highest weight (50%), followed by the Excellence criterion with a weight of 40% and the Transperency criterion with a weight of 10% - in which, the Transperency criterion has continued to expand the number of scientist profiles reviewed and evaluated on the Google Scholar database to 290 profiles (top 21-310).
