Promoting the strengths of aquaculture in economic development, the People's Committee of Dai Tu commune (Yen Lac) has coordinated with the District Agricultural Extension Station to implement support programs for the application of science and technology (S&T) in intensive fish farming for high economic efficiency. From 1-2 initial models, the area of intensive aquaculture in Dai Tu has continuously increased, many models apply 4.0 technology in aquaculture, contributing to the construction and development of concentrated and sustainable aquaculture areas.

Implementing the Project on aquaculture development in Vinh Phuc province for the period 2023 - 2030, in March 2023, Yen Lac District Agricultural Extension Station coordinated with Dai Tu Commune People's Committee to support the implementation of an intensive hybrid carp farming model at Mr. Truong Van Hop's household, Cam Trach village, Dai Tu commune.
On a pond area of over 6,000 m2, Mr. Hop's family was supported with 5,500 carp fry, nearly 3 tons of mixed fish feed, more than 20 liters of disinfectant, and 16 packages of probiotics to treat the pond environment.
Mr. Hop said: “In 2019, after visiting some intensive fish farming models in Hai Duong province, I had the intention of implementing the model locally but did not have enough funds to invest.
Accessing the intensive hybrid carp farming support program of the district's Agricultural Extension Station, the family invested nearly 100 million VND to renovate the fish pond, equip it with an oxygen aerator... ensuring technical standards for intensive fish farming.
The implementation process showed that the fish grew and developed well, without disease, and limited impact by weather during the farming process. After 3 months of testing the model, the survival rate of the fish reached nearly 83%, with an average weight of 2kg/fish, much higher than traditional farming.
Seeing the effectiveness of the model, I continued to increase the number of fish released for intensive farming with 2 types of tilapia and bighead carp. In the last fish harvest, the output reached 15 tons of commercial fish, sold to traders at 40,000 - 45,000 VND/kg, earning a profit of more than 200 million VND.
Also receiving support from the intensive fish farming support program implemented by the District Agricultural Extension Station, Mr. Dam Van Son's family in Cam Nha village, Dai Tu commune was supported with 50% of fish fry, animal feed, oxygen aerators, sensors... to raise intensive fish on an area of 14,000 m2.
Mr. Son said: "Compared to traditional farming methods, applying science and technology to intensive fish farming not only increases productivity and uniform fish quality but also helps reduce labor and improve the aquaculture environment.
With the sensor system in intensive freshwater fish farming, the pre-programmed system performs regular tasks, adjusts the fish farming process to suit weather conditions and fish density in the pond according to the correct technique, minimizing risks during the farming process. Although the initial investment cost is high, the high economic efficiency will help farmers recover their capital quickly, increasing their sustainable income.
With a total aquaculture area of over 60 hectares, in 2023, the aquaculture output in Dai Tu commune will reach nearly 300 tons. Mr. Vu Xuan Bac, Chairman of Dai Tu Commune People's Committee said:
“Aquaculture is the traditional profession of the commune, however, the traditional fish farming method in the past did not bring high economic efficiency and did not promote the potential and strengths of the locality.
In order to encourage and facilitate households to apply science and technology in intensive aquaculture, in the period of 2020 - 2023, the Commune People's Committee coordinated with the District Agricultural Extension Station to deploy a number of models to support breeds, animal feed, and agricultural materials for households raising intensive fish.
With the productivity and economic efficiency brought about by 1-2 initial models, currently, the total area of intensive fish farming in the commune has reached nearly 10 hectares, many intensive fish farming models earn hundreds of millions of VND in profit each crop, contributing significantly to the total annual agricultural production value of the commune.
In order to replicate intensive fish farming models, in the coming time, Dai Tu Commune People's Committee will coordinate with the agricultural sector to strengthen propaganda, guide technology transfer, encourage households to introduce high-yield and high-quality aquatic breeds into farming; create favorable conditions for people to access support mechanisms and policies on breeds, animal feed, agricultural materials, etc.
At the same time, maintain water surface area, ensure environmental sanitation, gradually form concentrated aquaculture production areas; strengthen inspection and supervision of intensive fish farming models according to support programs, ensure compliance with procedures and regulations; attract businesses and units to purchase output products for aquaculture households.
