Delivering a speech reviewing the tradition, Colonel Tran Hoang Giang, Political Commissar of Division 5, said: “As one of the first two main divisions on the Southeast battlefield, after 60 years of building, fighting and growing, the Division has achieved many outstanding feats in the resistance war against the US, saving the country, protecting the Fatherland, and performing international missions to help our friendly country Cambodia. The Division was honored to be awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces twice by the Party and State and many other noble awards, writing the tradition of "Solidarity, courage, mobility, flexibility, self-reliance, self-strengthening, defeating all enemies".

Entering the new period, Division 5 continues to promote regular construction, discipline training; innovate and improve training quality, combat readiness level; proactively and effectively participate in mass mobilization work, building a strong people's heart position in the area where it is stationed. From 2020 to now, the Division has been awarded the Second Class Fatherland Protection Medal by the President in 2021 and has received many forms of commendation from the Ministry of National Defense and Military Region 7.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Nguyen Trong Nghia expressed his deep gratitude to the heroic martyrs, generations of leaders, officers and soldiers through the ages and praised and congratulated the outstanding achievements and feats that Division 5 has achieved in 60 years of building, fighting and growing.

In a solemn and warm atmosphere, General Nguyen Trong Nghia requested the unit's Party Committee and commanders to continue to thoroughly grasp the directives and resolutions of the Party and the Central Military Commission; innovate thinking and actions; promote the application of science and technology, improve the overall quality and combat strength; proactively forecast, evaluate, and grasp the situation, not to be passive or surprised. The Division promoted political education, improved the quality and effectiveness of Party and political work activities, associated with promoting the building of discipline, building a healthy cultural environment and proactively and effectively participating in mass mobilization work, building a people's heart position, building solidarity between the army and the people, ensuring that each cadre and soldier always upholds and promotes the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the new period.

General Nguyen Trong Nghia expressed his belief that the cadres and soldiers will follow in the footsteps of their predecessors, cultivate virtue and train talent, build a clean and strong Party organization associated with building a comprehensively strong "model and typical" unit, build a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, modern unit, excellently completing all tasks in the new revolutionary period, worthy of being a strong mobile main force division, worthy of the tradition of the twice heroic Division.

On this occasion, the People's Committee of Tay Ninh province awarded a Certificate of Merit to Division 5 for its outstanding achievements in performing national defense and security work in the area.

Previously, General Nguyen Trong Nghia and Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang and delegates offered flowers and incense to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh and heroic martyrs at the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial House, the Martyrs Monument of Division 5, and the stele honoring the heroic martyrs of Division 5 on the unit's campus.
