On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Traditional Day (November 23, 1965 / November 23, 2025), delegates of officers and soldiers of Division 5 organized a journey to the source in Dat Do commune ( Ho Chi Minh City). The Division organized many charitable activities: Offering incense to commemorate Uncle Ho and the heroes and martyrs at the Monument of Heroes and Martyrs of Division 5, Temple, Memorial House of Heroic Martyr Vo Thi Sau; organizing visits and giving gifts to policy families; medical examination, free medicine and giving gifts to more than 200 people in difficult circumstances.

From Dat Do commune, the delegation continued to march to Tuyen Binh commune ( Tay Ninh province), which marked the glorious victories in the resistance war against the US to save the country. Here, officers and soldiers offered incense at the Martyrs' Temple, the National Historical Site of Long Khot station area.

The journey to the source is not only an occasion to commemorate the great contributions of previous generations, to foster pride, to arouse the will and spirit of dedication in each cadre and soldier today, but also an occasion to express gratitude to the people. Every activity, every gift, every visit and encouragement is a bond of solidarity between the army and the people. It is a gesture that demonstrates the beauty of tradition, preserved and promoted by generations of cadres and soldiers throughout the journey of building, fighting and growing up of the Division.

As one of the first two main divisions on the Southeast battlefield, Division 5 has gone through years of arduous, sacrificial and extremely glorious fighting, achieved many resounding feats of arms, contributed to the victory of the resistance war against the US, saved the country, protected the Fatherland and successfully completed international missions in Cambodia. With many outstanding achievements, the Division was honored to be awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State twice, writing the tradition of "Solidarity, courage, mobility, flexibility, self-reliance, self-strengthening, defeating all enemies". That is the invaluable spiritual asset, the source of strength for the Division to constantly educate and foster pride and fighting spirit for the generations of cadres and soldiers today and tomorrow...

Deeply aware of the role of traditional education, the Division has always proactively innovated content and diversified forms of propaganda and education. Units in the Division regularly organize political activities, seminars, traditional talks, and exchanges with veterans, creating a lively and attractive environment for officers and soldiers. Touching stories about military-civilian relations, comradeship, and profound memories from veterans and historical witnesses have helped the younger generation better understand and appreciate the sacrifices and heroic feats of their predecessors. The Division's traditional house displays hundreds of precious images, artifacts, and documentary films, making learning about traditions more intimate, lively, and emotional.

In particular, the Ho Chi Minh Memorial House, the 5th Division Monument and the Stele House listing the names of more than 34,000 martyrs of the Division within the unit campus are sacred "red addresses" that practically innovate and improve the quality of traditional education. Along with that, the Division combines traditional education with emulation movements, mass mobilization work, and the Army's rear, creating a widespread influence. With creative and effective methods, traditional education has become a great source of spiritual motivation, fostering the will, courage, and pride of officers and soldiers to always be steadfast and excellently complete all tasks.

In particular, in 2021, the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai and Tay Ninh provinces, nearly 4,000 officers and soldiers of the Division went to perform their duties on the front line. Although many officers and soldiers were infected, the more difficult the situation, the more the bravery and selfless spirit of the soldiers of the Division were affirmed. The days of fighting the pandemic have deeply engraved the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers, the soldiers of Division 5 in the hearts of the people. With outstanding achievements, the Division was honored to be awarded the Second Class Fatherland Protection Medal by the Party and State. After the pandemic, the Division flexibly deployed the model "Godmother - Love and Share", supporting orphans due to Covid-19. The officers and soldiers who wore protective clothing in the epidemic area transformed into "fathers and mothers" of the children, helping them nurture their dreams and will to live.

Being attached to the people is to cultivate the source of strength. The Division regularly organizes field training sessions combined with mass mobilization work, joins hands to build new rural areas, takes care of the Army's rear policies, and supports disadvantaged households. From 2020 to now, the Division has mobilized funds to build 89 gratitude houses and military-civilian gratitude houses with a total value of more than 7 billion VND; and presented thousands of gifts to policy families, poor households, and religious people, worth more than 1.6 billion VND.
