Before that, heavy rain lasted until the evening of November 19, the flood in Phu Huu village (Hoa Thinh commune, Dak Lak province) rose very quickly. Many households were surrounded by water, forced to climb onto the roof to call for help in the dark of night. Mr. Thanh did not have time to think about his family's property, but used a small old boat to overcome the fast-flowing water, sneaking to households to rescue people.
Crossing the muddy and dangerous floodwaters, Mr. Tran Cong Thanh rowed his boat to each household, taking each group of people, from children, women to the elderly, to a sturdy two-story house in the village. After bringing a group to safety, he would go upstream and continue his rescue journey.
"The water rose too quickly, and many people were trapped. At that time, I didn't think of anything else, just trying to get as many people to safety as possible," Mr. Thanh emotionally recounted.
From dusk on November 19 to dawn on November 20, despite the fierce flood, Mr. Thanh rowed his boat alone all night, rescuing more than 40 people before the small boat was submerged by the flood.
It can be seen that Mr. Thanh's brave action not only helped more than 40 people escape but also became a bright spot in the spirit of humanity and mutual support during the extremely dangerous time in the flood center of Hoa Thinh during the recent historic flood.
