Responsible Agriculture Concern
Faced with the current situation of pesticide and fertilizer residues in agricultural products, Dak Nong is focusing on promoting responsible agricultural production.
In recent years, raising awareness among the community about the importance of environmental protection in agricultural production has been focused on by all levels and sectors in Dak Nong province.
Responsible agricultural production helps farmers protect their health, improve product quality and protect the environment.
However, at present, there are some issues arising in the locality regarding food hygiene and safety for some agricultural products for export, especially durian. According to experts, the reason is that many farmers still do not practice clean agricultural production.
Growing weeds helps Mr. Le Van Minh's coffee garden in Quang Phu commune, Krong No district (Dak Nong) limit pests and adverse weather.
Mr. Le Van Minh’s family in Quang Phu commune, Krong No district has 2 hectares of land growing coffee and pepper. In previous years, he always used herbicides to spray weeds in his garden, at least 3 times a year.
According to Mr. Minh, when using this type of pesticide, the grass dies very quickly, but after many years of spraying, the coffee garden grows and develops poorly, the leaves turn yellow after each spray, the yield is low, and the soil in the garden becomes hard.
“It took me many years to restore the land to normal after using herbicides,” said Mr. Minh. “However, the plants in the garden still grow poorly, especially for new planting or replanting.”
The quality of durian products is threatened by the unreasonable use of fertilizers and pesticides.
According to the Department of Agricultural Development (Dak Nong Department of Agriculture and Environment), in recent years, the area, productivity, and output of crops and livestock have increased rapidly, which means the demand for agricultural materials has also increased.
“
Every year, the crop production industry uses an average of 2.6 million tons of various fertilizers, 500 tons of pesticides, and 1.5 million seedlings, equivalent to more than 9,000 billion VND.
The cost of agricultural inputs is very high. If we use fake or poor quality agricultural inputs, it will leave consequences that last for many years, especially for fertilizers, chemicals, and pesticides containing banned substances as they are today.
To create a change in responsible agricultural production for farmers and businesses, Dak Nong Agriculture Department has organized training courses for organizations and individuals to change the thinking, awareness, knowledge, laws, and actions of people and businesses about the impact of agricultural materials on the environment, human health, and production activities.
Every year, Dak Nong agriculture uses over 500 tons of pesticides.
Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dak Nong has developed a plan and program to promote responsible agricultural production in the locality. In which, all levels, sectors and localities focus on building models applying circular agricultural production solutions, utilizing available agricultural by-products to produce organic and biological agricultural materials, and limiting the use of chemicals to reduce production inputs.
According to Mr. Nguyen Viet Vui, Head of the Department of Agriculture, this is a long-term value to create sustainable value for cultivation and livestock breeding and is also an important solution to organicize and bio-ize agriculture.
Spreading ethical agriculture
Many cooperatives and members in Dak Nong are doing honest farming, not chasing quick profits but aiming at consumers.
Mr. Ha Cong Xa, Director of Bechamp Dak Nong Organic Agricultural Cooperative, Truong Xuan Commune, Dak Song District, is one of the people who actively and persistently encourages farmers to do organic farming. Currently, Bechamp Dak Nong Cooperative has gathered 40 members with a total organic coffee cultivation area of up to 70 hectares, of which more than 18 hectares are certified organic coffee gardens according to Vietnamese standards. "To have clean agricultural products, a sustainable market, and strong trust, farmers must do honest farming," Mr. Xa shared.

Protecting health, preserving the reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products and aiming for sustainable development, that is the reason why more and more farmers in Dak Nong and other regions choose the path of decent production. Farmers say no to toxic chemicals, commercial fraud and chasing immediate profits.
Hoang Nguyen Organic Agricultural Cooperative, Thuan Ha Commune, Dak Song District is a pioneer in organic pepper production. The cooperative's products meet international organic standards and are exported to markets with strict quality requirements.
Ms. Tran Thi Thu, Director of Hoang Nguyen Organic Agriculture Cooperative, Thuan Ha Commune, Dak Song District, shared: "Doing decent farming means not trading the health of yourself, your family and consumers for quick money. We live here, drink water from the land we cultivate, eat vegetables we grow, if we don't dare to eat them, who will we sell them to?"
Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Han, living in Gia Nghia City, said: "I accept buying vegetables, tubers, fruits, clean food... at a slightly higher price, as long as I can trust them. Farmers doing business honestly helps consumers like me feel more secure."
In fact, recently, many Vietnamese agricultural products have been unable to enter the international market due to chemical residues exceeding the permitted threshold. This has caused serious damage to both farmers and the export industry.

Among them, durian was rejected for import due to cadmium residue. Pepper, a major export item, was also warned for containing sudan residue... These violations not only caused contracts to be canceled, thousands of tons of agricultural products had to be destroyed, consumed domestically at cheap prices, farmers were left empty-handed, businesses suffered, and more importantly, they lost long-term trust from the global market.
Mr. Ho Gam, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Dak Nong Farmers' Association, commented: "A decent farmer is someone who dares to refuse quick profits to choose sustainable development. But for farmers to do that, they really need the support of support policies, especially building a chain of safe product consumption links. Without output, farmers will find it difficult to survive."
VietGAP cabbage products exported by Thinh Phat Cooperative, Dak Glong District, participated in the Central Highlands Agricultural Products Consumption Connection Fair held in Gia Nghia City in April 2025.
Consumers, especially in urban areas, are willing to pay more for transparent, environmentally responsible products. This is a great opportunity for ethical farmers to grow, as long as they build their brand and trust.
