Not someone who started a business to get rich, Ms. Pham Thi Duy My, Director of Duy Oanh Cereal Cooperative (Duy Son Commune, Duy Xuyen District, Quang Nam ) started from the simplest need: Wanting her children to have a nutritious meal. Few people expected that from the first batch of cereal, she would gradually build a clean agricultural product brand with a strong imprint of local resources.

At the same time, she also won many startup awards. Behind the glory is a journey full of many feelings of a woman "shouldering two shoulders at once".

The first batches of cereals not only “saved” the young mother, but also aroused in her a greater desire to produce clean, healthy food from the seeds of her homeland. The cooperative chose to coexist and develop with local farmers, taking advantage of available raw materials in Duy Xuyen - a fertile countryside with alluvial soil from the Thu Bon River.

Aspiration to make agricultural products with soul

In 2015, Ms. Pham Thi Duy My gave birth to her first child. Her insufficient breast milk made her worry and she learned more about nutrition. With her knowledge as a pharmacist and her acumen in researching natural foods, she started making cereals from familiar grains such as brown rice, black beans, green beans, lotus seeds, etc. to improve her health.

Interestingly, from the need for use for herself, her family and the patients she had come into contact with in the pharmaceutical industry, Ms. My gradually realized the potential of clean agricultural products. The first batches of cereals not only "saved" the young mother, but also aroused in her a greater desire to make clean, healthy food from her hometown seeds.

The cooperative chooses to coexist and develop with local farmers, taking advantage of available raw materials.

"I clearly define that each product is not just a commodity, but also a pride in local resources, a testament to the spirit of rural entrepreneurship," Ms. My shared.

Duy Oanh Cereal Cooperative was formed from that spirit. Unlike many other simple production units, the Cooperative chose to coexist and develop with local farmers, taking advantage of available raw materials in Duy Xuyen - a fertile countryside with alluvial soil from the Thu Bon River, famous for Tra Ly lotus, green beans, corn, cashews and local cereals.

Not only stopping at production, Ms. My is also passionate about building the Duy Oanh brand as a symbol of kindness: "I want when mentioning Duy Oanh, people not only think of the product, but also think of a countryside with people who farm with all their hearts," she said.

However, the road to entrepreneurship is not paved with roses, especially for a woman living in the countryside, carrying on her shoulders two roles at the same time: mother and leader. Ms. My does not deny that there were times when she faltered.

Ms. My is also passionate about building the Duy Oanh brand as a symbol of kindness.

In addition to the problems of capital, market, and products, what makes her most tired is the pressure of time and family responsibilities. "If my husband and children do not understand, it is very difficult to devote myself to work. There are times when I have to struggle a lot with my thoughts before each long business trip or meeting with partners," Ms. My shared.

Modern women, confident and independent

Ms. My's products are available in many localities.

Fortunately, her family was the support for her to continue. In addition, there was the support of the Women's Union at all levels. She clearly remembers 2022 as the first turning point when she participated in the "Creative Women's Startup Ideas" contest at the provincial level and won first prize. This success helped her feel more confident when entering the regional level in 2023, where she continued to win the consolation prize and was honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Also in that year, the Women's Union of Duy Xuyen district supported the cooperative with 25 million VND to design packaging, labels, and promotional videos , a timely support to standardize products and enhance the brand.

Duy Oanh's products

"I myself was born from the Association. Since I first started this journey, I have received guidance, support and encouragement from the Association. Thanks to that, I can learn, confidently assert myself and develop the Duy Oanh brand as it is today," she said gratefully.

Currently, the cooperative's products have expanded their markets inside and outside the province, with many product lines from nutritious cereals. In 2025, Ms. My continued to win the First Prize for effective production development model with the model: "Duy Oanh Cereal - Enhancing agricultural products" organized by the People's Committee of Quang Nam province.

From her real-life experience, Ms. My wants to send a positive message to young people, especially women who are dreaming of starting a business: "Starting a business is not easy, but if you have faith, are well prepared, and have timely support, anyone can make their dreams come true."

According to her, modern women are not only good at housework but also capable enough to participate effectively in social activities and economic development. Carefulness, sophistication, flexibility, typical qualities, are the strengths that help women start a business more successfully.

In particular, in the context of the increasingly vibrant start-up movement in Quang Nam province and the expanding programs to support women, Ms. My believes that: "Today's women can confidently live and work according to the criteria of Vietnamese women in the new era: Confidence - Self-respect - Loyalty - Responsibility".
