Since the beginning of 2025, the unit has signed a contract to ensure the supply of irrigation water for more than 18,389 hectares of winter-spring rice. As soon as the production season begins, the Company coordinates with localities to inspect and review the irrigation system and adjust the water supply process according to the actual water source at the reservoir and dam. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong, Deputy Director of the Company, said: For projects at risk of water shortage, the unit has developed a plan for rotating water supply, coordinating with the grassroots irrigation team to regulate water according to the principle of "take from far away first, take from near later". At the same time, the Company has deployed the repair of 62 irrigation projects during the year; to date, 20 projects have been completed, 5 projects are under construction, the rest are being surveyed and documents are being prepared for completion within the year.
In early July, heavy rains collapsed 7 meters of the wing wall and 8 meters of the stone channel of the temporary dam in Gia Phu commune, preventing water from entering the main channel. More than 700 households in 8 villages lacked water to plant 81 hectares of rice for the summer-autumn crop. Mr. Lo Van Luong, Party cell secretary and head of Na Mac village, said: The village has 70 households with 6 hectares of rice that cannot be planted due to damaged structures. People hope to receive timely support to overcome the problem and ensure a timely water source for production.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang, Vice Chairwoman of Gia Phu Commune People's Committee, said: This year's crop, the commune planted 447 hectares of rice. To ensure irrigation water, the commune directed irrigation teams to mobilize people to dredge canals; coordinate with the Provincial Irrigation Works Management and Exploitation Company, Phu Yen Branch to survey and temporarily repair the temporary dam in mid-July. Up to now, people have planted about 50% of the area, striving to complete it in July.
Faced with the damage to the temporary dam of Gia Phu commune due to floods, the Company is urgently planning to make stone cages to temporarily restore the canal, ensuring enough water to plant nearly 81 hectares of rice in July. At the same time, the unit is completing the proposal to permanently repair the project by the end of 2025; directing the Branch to coordinate with local authorities and grassroots irrigation teams to monitor the weather and operate properly to ensure water for rice cultivation.
Mr. Dang Van Yen, Deputy Director of Phu Yen Branch of Irrigation Works Management and Exploitation Company Limited, said: The unit is managing 251 irrigation works, serving 2,400 hectares of winter-spring rice in 8 communes. To ensure water for winter-spring rice cultivation, the Branch has coordinated with localities to dredge canals, mobilize human resources to fix minor damages, and ensure irrigation water. At the same time, it regularly directs the irrigation team to effectively regulate water to serve production.
The winter-spring rice crop is usually not short of water due to the rainy season, but it also poses a potential risk of dam safety. Currently, the Company always arranges staff to be on duty 24/7 at the reservoirs, regularly updates the water level to the General Department of Irrigation's system and increases patrols and inspections to operate according to the correct procedures, ensuring water sources for winter-spring rice production.
Thanks to the close coordination between the Company, local branches and farmers, along with synchronous response solutions, this year's crop will achieve productivity and quality as planned, contributing to stabilizing production and people's lives.
