In the spring sunshine, the fields of portulaca and toadflowers compete in brilliant colors on the flower stream, adding to the beauty of the mountain town of Pleiku. The road on both sides of Hoi Phu stream meanders along the shimmering water, becoming an eye-catching highlight in the heart of the city.

Turn polluted places into flower streams

Looking at the flower-filled streamside road, Pleiku residents cannot help but be surprised because just recently, this place was still a swampy area with overgrown vegetation that few people visited.

Ms. Mai Thi Huong, an employee at a coffee shop along the embankment, said that this area used to be very polluted and dirty.

"Previously, people dumped wastewater and garbage on both sides of the stream, making it smelly and overgrown with trees. After clearing the houses next to the stream and building canal banks to create landscapes, this section is now a 'hot' street in the city, and I heard that it will soon be turned into a walking street.

People living and doing business in this area are now very excited to see the landscape change and the quality of life improve!" - Ms. Huong said excitedly.

Meanwhile, Ms. Lai Thi Bich Van, owner of a spa along the embankment, shared that in the past, because the area was dirty, people carelessly dumped garbage and waste into the stream, causing pollution and stench.

Since the renovation and clean-up of the landscape, people have become more conscious of maintaining hygiene and reducing waste. The beautiful landscape has also attracted many locals and tourists to visit and take pictures, making the road more vibrant.

Create urban beauty, develop tourism

Ms. Van suggested that to make the stream and the roads on both sides more beautiful, the city government should continue to clear weeds and dredge mud from the stream to avoid re-pollution.

It is known that the project to prevent landslides of Hoi Phu stream from Su Van Hanh street to Hoa Lu Phu Dong urban area is invested by Pleiku City People's Committee, assigned to the City Construction Investment Project Management Board as representative.

According to Mr. Hoang Minh Nghia - Director of the Pleiku City Construction Investment Project Management Board, the project to build an embankment to prevent landslides on Hoi Phu stream aims to ensure stability on both sides of the stream, overcome environmental pollution, create urban beauty, and develop tourism.

The embankment project on Hoi Phu stream is nearly 2km long, including spillways to form lakes and steps combined with a community bridge. The embankment on both sides of the stream is 3.6km long, the top of the embankment is combined with a traffic road.

The project also invests in a rainwater and wastewater drainage system, a lighting system along the streamside road combined with dredging the streambed and regulating lake.
