In the concentrated field of Thuong Nguyen village (Thach Kenh commune, Thach Ha), Mr. Le The Hung supervises the drone spraying pesticides for more than 3.5 hectares of his family's rice. Mr. Hung shared: "With such a large area, I cannot spray by hand like before, hiring people is difficult and expensive. In the last two crops, the drone has helped me avoid wading in the field, each sao only takes 3-5 minutes to spray, saving about 30% of the amount of pesticides used while still effectively controlling pests. Most importantly, I do not have to come into direct contact with the pesticides, minimizing toxicity."

Not only households but also many cooperatives are actively applying this advanced technology to improve production efficiency. Mr. Le Bang Tan - Director of Dong Tien Agricultural Cooperative (Dong Mon Ward, Ha Tinh City) said: "I have been using drones to spray pesticides on the cooperative's rice for nearly 2 years now. The spraying process is automated, the aircraft flies according to a pre-set diagram, making uniform contact over a large area. Spraying time is shortened by about 70% compared to the manual method. In particular, pesticide packaging is collected centrally and processed according to the correct process."

In recent years, thanks to the promotion of land conversion, land accumulation and construction of large fields, the application of drones in agricultural production in the province has become increasingly popular, especially in localities with high levels of intensive farming such as Cam Xuyen, Ky Anh, Can Loc districts, etc. According to the leader of the People's Committee of Ky Phu commune (Ky Anh district), the whole commune has focused on converting nearly 150 hectares of cultivated area, forming concentrated production areas in the direction of "one variety, one season, one technical process". Thanks to the planning of land into large plots, the introduction of mechanization into production has become much more convenient.
In the past 2 years, many large rice-producing areas of the commune have used drone spraying technology, bringing about clear results, helping to save labor and reduce production costs. Currently, the common service price is 30,000 VND/sao when farmers buy pesticides themselves, or 55,000 VND/sao if using pesticides from spraying units.

Grasping the actual needs, many people have boldly invested in drones, both serving their family fields and providing services to other households. In 2023, along with the local policy of supporting the application of science and technology, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Truong (Thach Xuan commune, Thach Ha) invested in buying drones and participating in training courses to open a spraying service for hire for people.
Mr. Truong said: “For the pesticide spraying service, each crop I carry out on an area of over 500 hectares in Thach Ha, Can Loc, Cam Xuyen districts... with a price of 30,000 VND/sao, not including the cost of chemicals. Thanks to modern technology, the pesticide particles are sprayed in the form of mist, helping to penetrate well, increasing the effectiveness of pest control while saving chemicals, and spraying efficiency is superior. Although it saves costs in the long run, the initial investment cost for the machine is quite high (over 300 million VND/machine - PV), you have to study regularly to improve flying techniques and use programming technology".

To provide services to members of the cooperative, Mr. Dang Thai Hoa (Thach Binh commune, Ha Tinh city) said: “I have invested in 1 unmanned spraying aircraft, 2 combine harvesters, 2 plows. During each production season, I will provide services to members of Dong Tien Agricultural Cooperative to support each other in production development. At the same time, I also participate in providing services to farmers in Ha Tinh city and neighboring areas. This equipment can reach a capacity of more than 30 hectares/day, helping farmers save a lot of time."
In recent years, Ha Tinh has focused on encouraging people to accumulate land, apply synchronous mechanization to production and manage crop pests. In fact, the implementation of the province's policy on land conversion, accumulation, and construction of large fields has promoted mechanization and automation of agricultural production, including the application of drones.

In addition to spraying, agricultural drones also support farmers in other tasks such as spreading fertilizer and sowing seeds quickly and effectively. According to the assessment of the industry, this device is suitable for terrains (mountains, plains, ...); reduces toxicity from pesticides because the sprayer does not need to come into contact with the drug; suitable for application on large areas, large-scale field production, ... Thanks to that, drones are gradually becoming a powerful "assistant" for farmers, contributing to changing the appearance of Ha Tinh's fields, towards modern agriculture.
According to the recommendations of the provincial Department of Crop Production and Livestock, farmers and service providers need to pay attention to using plant protection drugs according to the "4 rights" principle, the drugs are in the list of plant protection drugs allowed for use in Vietnam, registered to prevent and control the right pests on crops; spray the drugs at the right concentration and recommended dosage. When mixing the drugs into the machine, wear protective gear to avoid spilling them. At the same time, set the height, speed and spray flow rate appropriate to each type of crop and drug.
