Due to poor health and difficult circumstances, Mr. Le Mai Vinh and Mrs. Tran Thi Binh in Thien Thai village used to live in an old, dilapidated house. In March 2025, their family received 70 million VND from the provincial program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses to build a house.
After more than 3 months of construction, the new, spacious house, over 100 square meters wide, was completed to the great joy of the couple. Mr. Vinh emotionally shared: “The old house was severely damaged, we are old and weak, so building it is beyond our ability. Thanks to the province's support policy, along with the help of the people, we have the motivation to borrow more to build this house. With a stable home, we feel like life has opened a new page.”
In Tan Dinh village, similar joy also came to Ms. Duong Thi Xuan, a poor single parent, raising a small child in grade 7 alone. For many years, the mother and child had to live in a makeshift, dilapidated house, always living in fear during the rainy season. When she received 70 million VND in support from the province's temporary housing elimination program, Ms. Xuan boldly borrowed more to build a 58m² house worth nearly 250 million VND.
The new, spacious and sturdy house has been completed, Ms. Xuan could not hide her emotions: "There are times when I still dare not believe that my children and I have a warm and solid roof, no longer worrying about storms, sunshine and wind. Having a solid house, I have more motivation to find more work and send my children to school."
Along with the two households mentioned above, in just the first 6 months of 2025, in Toan Luu commune, 9 houses for poor and near-poor households (including 5 poor households, 4 near-poor households) were newly built with a total support fund of 630 million VND. In addition to capital from the State budget, the locality also promoted socialization, calling for contributions from businesses, organizations and kind-hearted individuals, thereby spreading the spirit of solidarity and humanity in the community.
In parallel with housing support, Toan Luu also synchronously implemented many social security policies to take care of people's lives: 100% of poor and near-poor households are granted health insurance cards; school-age children are exempted or have reduced tuition fees; 100% of poor households are supported with electricity bills. In the first 6 months of 2025, the commune paid 112.26 million VND in social subsidies to poor households according to Resolution 72/2022/NQ-HDND of the province and more than 58 million VND in electricity support for poor households and social protection households.
It can be seen that from humane policies and the cooperation of the whole society, faith and hope are being kindled, helping the people of Toan Luu have more motivation to rise up and escape poverty sustainably.
Mr. Duong Duc Toan - Chairman of Toan Luu Commune People's Committee affirmed: "The locality identifies poverty reduction as a key and regular task. In the coming time, the commune will continue to mobilize resources, support people to develop their livelihoods, stabilize their housing, and improve their quality of life. The journey to escape poverty of households is always accompanied and supported by local Party committees and authorities, and we also hope that poor and near-poor households must really strive to overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives."
