This is an area where farmers cooperate with a company and the Quynh Tam agricultural cooperative to grow squash, pumpkin, bitter melon, and watermelon for seeds.

Households participating in the program are trained in the process from preparing the soil, building the trellis, to caring for the plants in each stage. The process of planting and caring for the plants is also closely monitored by the company's technical staff at each stage.

Mr. Hoang Van Ngoc - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Quynh Tam Commune, Quynh Luu District, Nghe An Province said: "This is a model of cooperation between the Company and Quynh Tam Agricultural Cooperative with farmers in the commune to pilot planting fruits for seeds. The total production area this crop is 3.5 hectares, distributed in villages: 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 in Quynh Tam Commune".

This year, pumpkin yield is expected to reach about 1 ton of fruit per sao. With this yield, pumpkin growers will earn about 10 million VND per sao. In addition, people can also sell pumpkin peels to the company to feed apple snails and earn extra income.

Besides, if growing green squash, it will reach 16 million VND/sao. Meanwhile, if growing bitter melon and watermelon, people will earn about 12 million VND/sao. For squash, people are expected to earn about 14 million to 16 million VND/sao," said Mr. Hoang Van Ngoc.

These are strong, pest-resistant and easy-to-care-for varieties, but growers need to apply production techniques in a closed process, ensuring compliance with the company's requirements from the stage of making pots to harvest."

The selection of suitable, high-yield, efficient crops to replace traditional low-yield crops has gradually opened a new direction for farmers in Quynh Tam commune, bringing high and stable income, contributing to the work of hunger eradication and poverty reduction, and ensuring social security in the locality.
